Here’s a poser; if you had a budget of £150k for 1 car, what would it be? Something to tour Europe in comfort with but can still mix it with uppity big power TTs and the like.

Things is (and normally I’d be taking the **** out of your Barbie and Ken toy ;)) it’s not worth it with modern stuff. My last M3 was so competent and fast that it’s just not for the road anymore. I’ve just bought a lottery ticket and been thinking about this.

image.jpegFeck touring Europe Benny...?.Too much Covid......If I was lucky enough to have £150k and had to buy one car to keep for the rest of my life it would be a Vantage GT8....I don't care if there are faster cars for less money. This for me is perfect......

But if you made me buy a cruiser for Europe I am rather taken by the latest Bentley Continental......You can keep all the old stuff I would want something that I know would get me to my destination without having to call a low loader.

Fwiw, my ‘Barbie and Ken’ toy recently gave Damo a hard time in his 812. He was marginally faster in a straight line but held me up through the twisty B roads. You may think it’s a ‘toy‘, but there isn’t anything much quicker across country unless it costs at least 5 times what it cost me. Btw, IMO, a Testatosser/512 wouldn’t be reliable enough for long, fast touring.

I know that was my point. Cars have got so competent and fast that they’re just insanely unusable, you’re doing 100mph everywhere, it’s just nuts. I’ve come to think the 90s/00s is the sweet spot for reliability, usability and fun.

Really? I use its potential on a regular basis and I never get tired of it. Let’s be honest, 90s-00 cars are generally slow(ish), noisy and are becoming unreliable. I know this as I have a 2004 Maser Spyder. :D

Just use the TT and send the butler ahead in a RR. I may be on the look out for a new position soon. And I like travel.

In no particular order:

F12
Portofino M
720 (and a lot of praying)
Vanquish S

An Aston in 4th? You really aren't one of the faithful! Having said that, your first 2 picks show an element of sense that was sadly lacking when you bought your VV12S. :D

Ok so you want modern. If you’re going to spend that much have something special. Don’t dick around with the golf club carriers from Ferrari, the plastic tat from McLaren or the 007 wannabe stuff from Aston

How tall are you Benny?
