Hello all
I have been browsing the forum previously as a guest as I'm thinking seriously about buying a Granturismo S Auto. Seeing as a purchase is likely I thought I'd better register and participate. My current car is an Alfa Romeo Brera S.
I am concerned about owners having to re-charge their batteries regularly. I would probably only drive the car at weekends in the winter and probably couldn't live with having to put some sort of workaround involving battery chargers etc in place just to ensure the car started at will.
Do these cars have problems starting after say a weeks inactivity? How do your cars fare?

Many thanks
Bri

Hi Bri and welcome to the forum , several GtS owners will come on shortly and attest that so far a week hasn,t really been a problem , on cars that are coming to 2-3 years old and have trackers therein lies the problem , it the trackers nicad internal battery that packs up and then drains the main battery , in essence if you were to renew the tracker battery every 2 years then a week shouldn't be a problem ,

On both mine, the trackers are disconnected , and my batteries regualry topped up weekly with a 10 minute runs up and that seems to keep them spot on , otherwise you could just link up an internal Ctek trickle charger when the cars not in use , many have it and its no problem if its fitted discreetly , great for owners that work abroad and dont get to use their cars that often

Good choice of car tho .....lucky guy happy hunting

regards loz

Hi Bri. Welcome to the forum and all the very best in finding a GT-Sa that you're happy to commit to.

Regarding the battery. You'll be fine, after-all what happens if you drive it to the airport and go on holiday for a couple of weeks? For sure trickle charging will help maintain the battery, but not doing so won't stop it working after a couple of weeks.

Find yourself a good one, get it checked, and hey presto... a permanent grin......

Keep us posted?

Thanks all - That's a big weight off my mind. Just to clarify I am looking for a used GranTurismo S auto, and will probably go the main dealer route. I hope to be on the road by April. I will keep you all posted for sure.

Hi Bri, I have bought a GTS MC Shift in December and I too was concerned about the battery, but I have to say, she has started on the button, every weekend without issue. I did buy one of these thought but thus far have not used it:

http://www.care4car.com/productdisp...1_Smart_Charge_Battery_Conditioner_1_amp.html

As for the auto, have you considered the MC Shift, it has an auto mode and is about £5k more, but they are rearer and a great drive.....double downshift, blip the throttle, gunshot out the exhaust!

Either way, welcome to the mad house, if you need any help, no matter how silly it might sound to you, just ask, the guys on here just love to flex there Maserati knowledge!

If you fancy a go in a GTS, just head down the A3 till you hit the sea, ill take you for a spin.

Cheers for that Conaero - Must say I never seriously considered a GTS as I thought the gearshifting would be hard work in london traffic and the auto would be more manageable on a day to day basis. But having said that I haven't driven either so only going on what I've heard.

It's alot of money to spend to make the wrong desision. The auto may indeed suit you better but you should drive them both.

Hi Bri

I have a GTs A and have to say it it superb, went for an auto as my partner often drives it and there is lots of traffic here so thought it would be a better choice, I did try the 4.2 version first which did not really do it for me but they can be tweaked to get them to perform alot better. The 4.7 is a total different beast and is still very quick for an auto, do tend to leave it in sport mode most of the time though.

It will certainly bring a smile to your face. If you have any specific questions etc give me a shout. I would also be careful of the colour combo you choice as can make a big difference on resale value and saleability.

Thanks

The main complaint I have heard on the 4.2 GT is that the brakes are not up to the job and heavy usage ends up in new ones being needed and they aint cheap!
