Hi All,

I have just joined the forum as I am keen to buy a Maserati, after months of deliberation I have finally decided to get a GranSport - I would love a GranTurismo but my budget won't quite stretch that far.

I have been looking around the internet for the past month or so and have a few contenders, one was the silver car for sale by at Richard Grace cars - unfortunately it has been sold now. I am looking for expert opinions on this car : http://www.maundrelland.co.uk/maserati-gransport-v8-full-maserati-sh-skyhook-suspension-in-oxfordshire-for-sale-2979483 which is not far from me and looks to be a very good example with low mileage and only having 1 owner. It ticks all the boxes for me but I can't help but feel it is a little over priced?

As far as I can tell everyone highly recommends Richard Grace for quality Maserati's but does anyone know anything about Maundrell and Co - they certainly have some very nice stock, the Alfa 8C is particularly nice!

Can anyone recommend someone to perform an independent inspection in the Surrey / Sussex or Oxfordshire areas, I understand from the forum that this is considered essential (even if buying from Richard Grace?).

Many thanks in advance. I am really looking forward to an Italian beauty in my life again, the antidote to years of sterile Germanic efficiency!

Best regards,

Lee

Welcome Lee...thats a fine car you've spotted, don't know anything about them am afraid.

Richard is a through and through Maseratisti.....he sources the finest Masers out there and are then checked over by Autoshield another reputable provider and sponsor on here. If there are any issues Richard will stand over them and sort I am sure

Or for total peace of mind get another indie to assess....that price might be a tad high....but if it ticks all the boxes could well be worth it

Hi Lee

And welcome to the forum.

Richard Grace is definitely a good place to start looking and he is extremely helpfull on the phone also.
His stock has generally been on looked at by Autoshield Maserati, so any issues rectified.

I'm afraid I may know where the silver Gransport he had has gone ;-)

Have you looked at the Black one he has in stock as I drove that car last week and it is a lovely car.

Good luck with your search

As a guide.....if clutch not recently changed....circa £1500-2000 depending on what needs doing, brakes/pads/discs can now be changed including labour for around £500 non-OEM but equivalents, annual service around £500, bigger £750-1000...need to budget for older car maintenance though

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your reply. I am sure you bought a great car, it looked fantastic in the photo's - enjoy!

I am sure the black ones Richard has are great but I am not very keen on black cars, my preferences are pretty narrow unfortunately - either blue or silver. They do look great in silver, your GT looks very nice!

Wow, 5 replies already - many thanks you are all a very enthusiastic bunch!

I have taken on board all the advice so far. I think I may go to ADG in Sevenoaks at the weekend to have a look and drive of the two blue cars they have first as they are closer to me but the silver car at Maundrell and Co looks fantastic in the pictures and I can't help but feel drawn to it, if only it were a couple of grand less I might feel more confident of a good deal.

Thanks everyone, I will keep you updated.

Hi Lee, welcome.

I would love a GranTurismo but my budget won't quite stretch that far.

Nor does mine and I haven't looked back since.

Give Nareman at Nuvola London (Shepherd's Bush, to be precise) a shout. He has a couple of GSs in at the moment. Mine came from him and alongside Dicky he is one of the most decent used car dealers around. Sources the best, sells with absolute integrity and cares deeply about doing the right thing by his customers.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

PS - this is indeed the best kick-a55 forum in the world. Not even probably.

Hi Lee and a big warm welcome to the forum....Richard Grace is a great place to start and even if he doesn't have what you are looking for he could possible find you a car. Worth a call as he is happy to just chat.

Nuvola have a lower red GS at the moment and they are also well respected.

On the face of it the silver looks too much for an 05 car with half leather, but as with all Maserati it's all about history and condition rather than age. But bear in mind that cars with the tech cloth and not full leather re worth less and also seem to be harder to shift on when you come to sell unless priced well.....

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the advice. I must admit I would much rather have one with full leather than that odd fabric but they seem to be few and far between. After looking at all the Gransports for sale on Pistonheads, Auto Trader etc currently I think this car seems to be around 2-3k too much, not sure the dealer would be open to negotiating the price down by that much - how much of a premium should a car have for only having 1 owner after 8 years?

I might well visit ADG Sevenoaks this weekend, they have two blue Gransports for sale which seem to be reasonably priced, my first choice would be silver but blue is a close second, although they both also have the "techno cloth" + leather interiors.

The cheaper one at ADG has been there for ab age which is not unheard of for a Maserati so I think a deal could be done on that car...It was up closer to 24/25k I believe to start with........I think punters are put of with the very BLUE interior but worth a look as in the flesh I'm sure it looks better than the pictures.....

What about the silver one with 66k on the clock and up for 18k.....Must be worth a look if you want silver.....An inspection would show up any issues but remember a clutch is 2k if it needs one but even then it could come under 20k.

The blue leather + blue cloth combination on that one at ADG does look horrendous in the photo's, I was more interested in the one for 24K but it appears to have just been sold. I may go and have a look at the other one anyway with an open mind. To be honest I haven't even sat in one yet, let alone driven one and ADG are not too far away from me.

I had seen the 18k silver one on pistonheads but was slightly put off by the mileage as I was looking for one between 30k and 45k on the clock. I suppose 66k is not really a problem at the right price, as you say it leaves some margin for a clutch etc if it needs it and an inspection on this would be an absolute must!

Definitely take some time to go down to ADG (or any other seller), take a couple for a spin. ADG are sponsors on the forum, so you can ask them questions by PM to member ADGSevenoaks. Nice guys, knowledgable about Masers, but salesmen at heart...so let your wallet lead the conversation!

Hello lawco, the blue tech cloth is not nearly as loud in the flesh!. The good news is that we've just reduced it to £20995 so feel free to come down and have a look this weekend, regards Alistair at ADG Sevenoaks

Hi Lee

Yes the silver GS is very nice indeed. I actually like the techno cloth under your bum too as on a hot day it's a lot more comfortable, which bizarrely we have had a lot of this summer!

My GT is lovely and has performed brilliantly contrary to popular belief ;-)
Be really sad to see it go as its in lovely condition

Good luck with your search

Cheers

Wow, busy thread! Welcome Lawco first of all, shame Lee beat you to the silver car, lucky for you Lee! I've got 3 cars in that are all black and two more Gransports imminent too. Regards inspections, always best to get one done, I always have mine inspected and any faults rectified by Autoshield Maserati prior to listing, but am also happy if someone would like a further inspection on any car. Sounds like you may be buying ADG's blue car, if not for you, give me call should you so wish.

Well, you have a lot of things to think about lawco.....There was a blue GS with the same colour blue leather and tech cloth and the Bristol show this year and I will say it was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be.......
