The first thing on the list was to get it off the courier's trailer and into my garage, which given that the battery was flat - and thus the handbrake locked on, was somewhat of a challenge. I eventually found the emergency release lever and while that certainly made things easier, the fact that it was blocking my drive (and hence risked maddening the Social Secretary when she returned) I had no option but to move it into my garage. By dint of using three chain hoists linked together - along with a heavy-duty lorry tie-down strap, I gradually inched it into place and got the doors closed. Phew!
The car has clearly had a very minor shunt at some stage in its life as some of the panels (front wing, bonnet, etc.) don't quite line up properly, but I'm not worried about that yet. The rest looks really good; the main issue is the fact that with the battery (which appears new) fully charged, it'll only fire up for about a second before it cuts out. As you would expect, the CEL is on, but much to my disappointment the AlfaOBD software (running through an ELM327) will only talk to a few of the on-board modules - and this does not include the engine ECU, despite the M156 being listed as compatible. I currently therefore have absolutely no idea as to what is wrong. I'm loath to go buying any of the other OBD scanner systems until I am absolutely certain that they'll communicate with the GTS, hence why I'm posting on here. I'm based in mid-Devon - way out in the sticks, so don't have any local dealers to hand.
I'm an ex-race-car engineer, and work with CAN-type systems as one of my side jobs, so I can do most of the work myself - if I have the right tools!
