I have just bought a Gransport - thanks to Richard Grace for advice and support here and am looking for a trickle charger. The car has the Ctek connection on the battery, is that the best option as some have slightly iffy reviews. Thanks, car is lovely and looking forward to proper drives in the spring. Thanks Richard from Gloucestershire.

Hi Richard. Congratulations on your purchase. I would recommend a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger or even a Maypole 4.0Amp Smart battery charger - these are around £25. I have both of these types of chargers for my cars. Given that you already have a CTEK connection it will be plug and play if you buy a CTEK. Thanks Mike

Hi Richard, I've used cteks for years and indeed it was an mxs 5.0 that I used on the gransport. I've also used them for planes as well and always been totally reliable. Dead easy to swap out the leads if you elect to go down a different route. Enjoy!

Congrats on your new car, I am sure it is a peach.

Regarding chargers / conditioners, Ctek are as good most, but you are right, some people have reported issues, like them not being the IP rating they say and having some of the cheap components going pop.

I have the Maypole, which has been rock solid for me and probably has similar components. It operates differently to the Ctek. Instead of a float voltage, they operate on a pulsed charge, only switching on when the charge drops, which has some advantages over the float voltage from a Ctek if you aren’t in a temperature stable environment.

In the end you pay your money and take your choice, for either I wouldn’t leave it on all of the time for extended periods, as some people have seen issues.

Welcome.

I use a conditioner every so often, but most of the time simply turn the power off when stood for more than a couple of weeks.

Local to Glost too so hope to see you about once the salt is gone, until then I will be in the daily.

Welcome,

Congratulations on your new purchase.
I’m Worcestershire based (you know that better county just up the road :p ) but travel to the badlands (Hereford) and down your way on a near daily basis!

I think we need to see some pics :)

I too have the 'arduous' task of crossing Malvern Hills/British camp from Welland side to Ledbury on a weekly/bi-weekly basis (one of the best roads/road surfaces around if its empty, especially on a sunny day). We have a smaller ctek - xs0.8 - and use it all the time with no issues as the battery discharge on my Spyder is reliably unreliable.

I use Optimate 6 chargers on both the 360 and the GT. They’re not cheap at £100 a piece but I’ve never experienced any problems with them despite sometimes charging for a couple of months at a time if I’m away.

nice colour on the GS. Just get any modern 'smart charger' they all supply electricity and these car misbehave when volts reduce too far. Plenty of opportunity to deliberate on more expensive purchases down the road :) The consensus is leave it connected most of the time you are not using it unless you are extremely fastidious. Then disconnect once battery is full.
My one QP is hooked up when I know it will be unused. for a week.

It's a 2007 GS. Hadn't driven one pre arrival, so getting used to the CC change. Here it is.View attachment 93905
I hope you had a PPI, cause if not our resident dungeon master, Spoons, will be getting the paddles out.
He's so fanatical about everything being done right, he's practically Austrian!
Oh and welcome by the way. Word to the wise. If Spoons mentions electricity to you, leg it!
Its not just the parts prices that'll make your eyes water around here
