newbie thinking of coming to maserati

Looking a bit of advice / opinions, and yes i know the only thing to do is go drive them, but living at the far west of northern ireland these cars are few and far between here.

I sold my 360 last year, and after some debate ended up in a 996 turbo. love the car, it is a perfect example, manual and a perfect drive. The main reason I sold the 360 though was with 2 children now under 3 in our house it was getting little use. Went for the 996 turbo, but if i am honest it may not have worked exaclty as I had hoped. we use it as a family, but i am not happy with the lack of space for the kids in the back (i am planning to try Porsche prince car seats to see if it makes a difference).

this has led me to look at maseratis, and i am considering either a gransport or granturismo......any one any advice or thoughts etc

A big warm welcome to the forum Kllsoj......

Drove a 996 Turbo.....what a car....bloody fast but yes would imagine the lack of space with the children would be a pain....The good news is a Gransport or GT has enough space in the back for two adults so should be fine for the children.....boot space on both is still not great but better than your 911.

Yep lots more room in a Maser than a Porsche and also lots more soul and Passion. Drive one you will see!

I have a vision of the far west of northern ireland being lots of little country roads.... if thats the case I think you'll find the Gransport the better bet... GT a great option too, but it's going to feel like a boat after your 996....

try them both and share your views...

Thinking? You're using your head too much. Get out and drive them then let your heart decide...after an inspection of course!

See now I would be thinking QP; not a natural choice initially for those windy roads but the family would be absolutely made up :) back doors to get the kids in and out very easily, the kids can actually see out in the back so much less car sickness (cleaned plenty of puke out of leather and air vents in my time) and you get massive value for money and an extremely capable car...

I'd go Gransport on your roads. The suspension takes a hammering on your roads and GT & QP's are known for needing a lot of suspension maintenance. A Gransport is far lighter and would cope much better with your roads. Not to mention the fact that it's easier to handle as it has far smaller dimensions. This doesn't affect the internal passenger space as the GT ad GS are almost identical for leg room etc. I've got loads of customers who run a GS as a family car and it's ideal for it. Hope that helps.

one thing I meant to ask. Are these cars as mileage sensitive as ferrari? Also is there much difference between a 2004 and 2007 re faults or improvements etc

thanks

Definitely not mileage sensitive like Ferrari; love to be driven hard and high milers are not uncommon at all. They don't like languishing unused!

They tend to lose some money at 40k miles but the cars are good for it. Early cars tend to be half leather but not a massive difference in the cars. Re servicing, speak to Rory @ Hursts, great chap and faultless service.

This man talks a lot of sense! Adds perfectly to my comments on PH.

It's so easy to say, but do go out and drive a GT and a GS and you'll understand the pro's and con's first hand.
