Nit UPDATE

I'm just getting around to up-dating my sat nav discs and part of the procedure is to install the nit up-date. Has any 4200 owner installed this software and, if so, have you any tips on the best way to do it and do you know of any pitfalls awaiting the unwary Luddite?

I think this has come up before Benny, Conaero knows about this, he will advise when he passes by or pm him,

Thanks Safrane. Always wary when dealing with things like this as they tend to bite me on the bum.

I too tried this, but I seemed to fail and have since thought it may be because I was burning the disk on a Mac rather than PC?

Anyone done the NIT upgrade from a Mac-burnt disk?

Miles, I did the up date from a Mac-burnt disc and as far as I can tell it works as advertised. However, I tried it out with a Mac-burnt major roads of europe disc which is probably not the best disc to try as it only shows motorways and not A and minor roads. I also found that the update still works with the Maserati disc which I assume it should. I am burning the full set of discs later today (hopefully) and will then be able to declare whether or not everything is 0K.

Benny if you find a way of fitting the French roads onto a disc let me know as the files I have are too large to fit on one disc and keep failing to write.

Well, what a pain. I think Miles might be right about the Mac-burnt discs as I am not now convinced that the update has installed as there is no way of telling. I am going to download onto a Windows machine and try again. This time I may be able to give a definitive answer as to what works and what doesn't. Safrane, I hope to be able to tell you if I can get the whole of France onto one disc. Have you tried loading onto a DVD?

Already have. Unfortunately, he has a Gransport without the Sat nat and hasn't had the need to install it elsewhere. Will just have to suck it and see!

No joy. We have tried Mac and windows but it keeps coming up with CD error on the display. I've run out of ideas at the moment but will try again when the weather improves!

David with the yellow 4200 has a genuine Maserati 2005 up-date disc which he loned me.

I created a new GB disc...it works some times but about 20% of the time it throws up an error and also when searching for some addresses it gets stuck.

Is there meant to be a visible confirmation of a successful NIT upgrade?

I couldn't tell. The fact that it threw up a CD error and wouldn't read the downloaded discs indicated that perhaps it hadn't installed. Dony know for sure though.

If you PM Lewis/Marcos, he has the original and has sold his car, so if you ask him nicely, he might lend it to you.

Hi Benny

I did you have a particular reason why you needed to install the NIT update, as any of the new Sat Nav CDs should work with any of the 2002 onwards NIT software?

I have the Maserati NIT software disc which installs all the services including the Sat Nav and GSM phone which as Peter says, you load into the CD player in the arm rest, switch off and then switch on again and it auto installs.

I'm happy to meet up with you some time to run my disc through your car if you like, I live not far from Whitchurch in North Shropshire so it's not far from you.

Regards

David
