Noise

After hearing several GT-S/ after-market jobbies, I have been thinking of upgrading my GT with a Larini valved-exhaust. I am also thinking of buggering off back to NZ, with car. But I''m also struggling to find out if the standard 4200GT passes the idiotic NZ import requirements, even without the Larinis.

However, as my GT has aged, like a good claret, I, and several others have noticed that the standard exhaust is becoming fruitier. As a bonus, the lentilists and yoghurt weavers are objecting ever more so to the increasing noise by flapping and using excessive arm-waving.

Have any other members noticed this? I've heard exhausts get better with age, but I was also woondering if Aus/NZ impiort rules preclude 'upgraded' exhausts and as mine seems to be improving, should I stick to the standard exhaust?

As an aside, at my last MOT, the CO and HC levels were quoted as 0% Are these likely to double with a Larini sports cat?

Cannot answer the first part doodlebug, but I can say that my QP sailed through it's last MOT...
I have had the Larinis on for a couple of years now (full system - sports cats, link pipes, back boxes),
Here are the numbers...2004 QP, 4.2 duoselect...
MOT on 26-Feb-2011, 52,950 miles
CO2 % vol - min limit \ none max limit \ 0.200 My actual value 0.025
HC ppm vol - min limit \ none max limit \ 200 My actual value 1
Lambda - min limit \ 0.970 max limit 1.03 My actual value 1.027

Can't speak for NZ but in Aust they will test the car for exhaust noise. They aren't interested whether it's standard or not, just the output. If it was me I would send the car back andthe Larini separately and put it on after the car has passed all the usualu import and registration processes as no doubt the Larini. Is louder. Alternatively you could find out what the noise limits Re in NZ and ask one of the members on here with Larini fitted to measure thedb output and in that way you will know whether you would have an issue importing with the Larinisfitted fitted. .
