A year ago this morning I was test driving, inspecting and then arranging a bank transfer. Over the last year it's taken the family to Tuscany and back, including a visit to the Maserati factoy in Modena. We've done about 5k miles, taking the mileage up to 34.5k, despite being SORNed Dec-Feb to avoid road salt.
Mechanically I've reverted the FD springs, anti-roll bars and Tubi exhausts back to standard, with the sale of the exhausts covering the cost of all the replacement parts. I've had a new clutch put in and a service, for the price of a decent second hand car.
The car's been almost totally reliable, and only let me down once when I let the battery go flat due to not driving it enough. It did scare me at Dover, when we were pulled over in the port for what appeared to be an explosives check. No-one involved ever admits to it, but it's obvious - they pull in random people who don't fit a terrorist profile to make the numbers up so as not to appear discriminatory... Anyway, they kept us waiting for about 10 minutes while they swabbed all 5 cars with the same swab, then tested it. When I restarted the car all sorts of errors came up on the dash, including the ominous "take to dealer" one, but it did start and run. I put it down to the huge detector in there generating a strong electromagnetic field causing interference. I thought I may have to do a battery reset, but had to drive onto the ferry due to time. Thought I'd do it in Calais if required, but when we got there everything was fine, and has been ever since.
No regrets so far
