Paddle shifters

Spoke to the dealer yesterday about retrofitting the paddle shifters... So it can be done, no mention of what options were already fitted (I had read that it needs the electic seats and/or a sunroof), he did mention that if the power adjustable column wasn't fitted this needed to be fitted at the same time. Anyway, mine has it already so they quoted around £1100 inc VAT and fitting.
I looked at a Ghibli with them fitted and they look good, feel good but my one reservation is that the indicator stalk is further away from the steering wheel and felt a bit of a stretch. How do people find using it with paddles fitted?

It has never felt to me that the stalk is particularly further away than on my other cars. On my previous Ghibli I also had them retrofitted and did not notice any significant difference in reaching for the indicator stalk before and after.

I've always used them on loaner QP/Ghibli and like them a lot as sport auto often hangs onto gears too long.

They should be standard - they even are on my Discovery and are useful on that - but remember you cannot lock the box in 7th or 8th like you can on many other applications of the ZF box.

It does seem a bit much they aren't standard on a car costing this much and £1000 just seems an awful amount money .... But then Maserati have never really been knob for offering value for money where stuff like this is concerned. It's surprising just how many do not have the paddles. I was looking at some in Dick Lovett the other week and thy are are 8 cars and only one paddle shift. Don't they make you buy them as a package when new so you cannot spec just the paddles.....?

I have the shifters. Initially is was a reach to get to the indicator stalk but now I'm used to it and don't really notice.

I don't know how I'd drive it without them. I pretty much always use them to shift down before overtaking, even in normal mode. I wouldn't entertain one without the shifters.

Yup, shifters are a must have. Tp spec from factory, you need the electric memory seats and column option. I'm not sure if this is because there is a different loom set-up or if it's just BS to get you to buy more options that you need.

I found them to be easy to use and no issues with the indicator whatsoever. Nicely, the air con blows on them and makes them cool to the touch, I liked that.

The column sounds like it's different in that the indicator is further away from the wheel than the wiper stalk. Not sure if it's the same on the non paddle version?

Not sure I follow that? On the Ghibli there is only 1 stalk that does the wipers and the indicators. This is further from the wheel when paddles are fitted and the column trim is different to accommodate this

D'oh! I was thinking about the GT, apologies. But you've also answered the question about the column, I suspect

So its in now for the 3 day suspension recall, some eye wateringly expensive front pads, and IF one of the bits comes for the paddle shifters, they will fit those too (on back order) If they don't turn up Ive told them to leave it...

For £1k, i'd be removing said part from a demo car for now and resolving that later!

At Maserati pricing wouldn't that add an additional £1k to the cost? £500 to remove them from the demo car, and £500 to fit the replacements to it when they arrive ;)

I've had that with other brands but some reason Maserati don't seem to do it, hence my last Ghibli loaner being with me three weeks.

Not particularly happy customer, the part hasn't turned up so will need another visit if I still want the paddles fitting. That would be 3 trips now for a service, recall and these things fitted, and its not round the corner either!

Yet another example of their inability to look after customers properly. The variance from dealer to dealer is astonishing. You'll be pleased when you finally get them!

So I Dropped it in today as the bits had finally turned up. The fluid pricing of jct has struck again as it's 1340 ish now! Getting the alloys done as well whilst it's there..

So went to collect today. Paddle shifters look good but the alloys were terrible so left it with them to have them done again. They agreed it was a shoddy job!
