Today doing some work on my Opel Manta GSi as I'm banking on it getting Ms French a new kitchen and I find some tin worm.

I'm going to see what people on Pistonheads think as I bought it unseen apart from a few pictures ;)
I would say if that’s the worst of the rust it’s in good condition

I have seen far worse restored. There are a lot of replacement sections available for the known rust spots particularly in Germany. The Opel Manta club has also sourced some in the UK.

I’ve recently bought this one, stored for nearly 20years, very solid bodywork but price to match. That said it’s my 8th Opel Manta and takes 30years off my age

Only done 25k miles, but I’m upgrading to a 2.4l motor on throttle bodies, with brakes, suspension and wheels to cope. 110bhp just doesn’t cut it in 2021.

I thought my 88 GSi was low mileage at 80,000 kilometres.

What amazed me was that it still has the original Philips stereo and 1 key operates all the locks. I remember spending most of the second half of the 80’s replacing rear quarter lights and door locks on Vauxhall/Opels because it was so easy to nick the stereo

Manta GSi??? Is that a French thing?

Did you mean Monza or Manta GTe?

The Manta GT/E originated in Germany in the 70s but the name and injection models didn’t come to the UK until 1983. The Europeans changed to GSi in about 83 but the UK kept the GT/E name. Specification wise they were the same.

The last UK Monza was a GSE

It was indeed a Ventora, and originally came with a 3.3ltr straight six (I think it was essentially a Bedford truck engine). I had one as a family hack back in the 80's.

Big Bertha had a 5ltr Holden/Repco lump but Gerry stuffed it so it was relatively short lived.

My dad had a Ventora for years. Sold it to buy a Nissan Sunny (WTF???).
The bloke who bought it wrote it off 20 minutes after buying it! I actually think my dad shed a tear when he found out.
