When I bought the QP, 1 of my haggling points was the state of the front grille. A couple of areas where the chrome was damaged, and the fairly usual rusting through of the mounting brackets. A lengthy call some time ago to HR Owen (double checking the part numbers), and a wasted journey over to them pick it up I gave up. At the time, Maserati’s Global parts system showed 4 in the world - they wouldn’t sell me 1 of them. Can now be found commanding £2,500 on EBay. A bit of rubbing down, masking up and some smoothrite did the trick for the past 4 years, yet lately he was starting to look a bit like crack addict. A call from Eurospares prompted another concerted effort to find one. They had a breaker in, good grille but all most £500. No thanks.
Long story short, I found a new after market stainless grille. Some masking, painting and making a new mount for the emblem and the QP is properly smiling again. Ever so slightly different, in that the main surround is round rod, and not U shaped. Offered up well and after a little fettling fitted very nicely. All in a bit of my time, and £270. Took the time to clean up lower conveyer and paint up the 5 bolts.
Have kept the original, but TBH think it is past saving.
Next up, my hideous wing mirror mounts and scratched interior door handles.
