QP CD changer issues

Hi, I've just joined after being pointed here by a chap on another car forum. I've put a post in the newbies section to say hi.

I have bought an 05 QP. All is fine except for the CD changer which is being recalcitrant. It was working but was really crackly on the sound. I swapped the discs around and now it doesn't work at all. It recognises there is a disc there in all the slots and reads it enough to show the track numbers on the screen but nothing plays. You can hear it whirring and clunking but never gets so far to actually play the disc.

Any ideas?

To be honest I'd happily eschew the changer if there was a way to plug an ipod/phone into the stereo.

Hi Ben,
Are all the lights flashing on player? can you eject any of the CDs?
reason I ask is that I had all the lights flashing on mine a long while ago, a couple of car audio places I took it to said it could not be fixed,
but I sent it away for repair and it came back good as new...I think I did put up a post about it here, will do a search...

I've got a similar problem with my spyder. The autochanger page on the info centre doesn't show any discs in it even though it's full. If I then eject all the discs and put them back in it recognises the fact and starts to play but usually no sound comes out. However, occasionally it does. Still it doesn't matter to me as I cant be ar5ed working it out I usually leave the car to provide the soundtrack. Much nicer.

Thanks both. To answer the queries the lights are on on it and it happily takes and ejects the discs in any slot. You can hear it shuffling the discs around to get to the one it wants to play. At that stage then it just whites and clunks but never actually plays. It knows it has a disc and had read the number of tracks successfully.

As it happens my everyday mondeo had a duff changer when I bought that too (I'm cursed). The dealer had that fixed as part of the deal but I remember it being a pain. Looking at the small print if appears to be covered by the warranty so i'll try there first.

I do note that there are two units on eBay at the moment but both are in the states. Dies anyone know if it's just a standard blaupunkt model? Might have more luck trying to find one than just searching 'Quattroporte CD changer'

I've done some digging this morning and it turns out that the basic CD changer unit is a Blaupunkt IDC-A09. The same unit was fitted to various Fiats and Peugeots of the same age. Now a quick look on eBay shows that second hand working examples of the basic unit can be bout for about £70ish. Does anyone know if there is anything unusual about the Maserati unit that would make a generic one a no go? Otherwise that would seem the best plan if mine is indeed goosed.

No idea Ben, but thanks for the info. It may come in handy in the unlikely event of me getting bored with my Maserati sound track.

Thanks Arfa. I'm not in the market for one at the moment but thanks for the thought.

Ok, bit more movement. It is properly kaput now.

Dealer agrees it needs a warranty claim but needs to see it not working to authorise it. From there dunno. Ideal situ for me would be a fixed changer plus iPod connection. Is this feasible in an 05 car? Failing that is an iPod connection in lieu of the changer feasible as that is probably more sensible although I would like to keep the car as it should be so it'd be a shame to lose the changer.
