QP totally and utterly flat battery , now the boot won't shut

Hi,
went to put the QP on its trickle charger today and it wouldn't open with the key fob. Opened the door manually (key) and all dead, not even the LED's on the doors were working. Battery is in the boot of course. Following a quick check on youtube opened the boot. Then alarm starts going off, stopping starting etc.

Hooked up the flat battery and after 10 mins alarm went off, was just at a point where I was going to disconnect everything.

Anyway, now on charge, door locks now work etc however the **** boot won't shut. Checked the latch position, made sure it was open etc. When I go to close the last servo activated bit doesn't trigger. Pressed the plunger thing in and tried the key fob but nothing.

Any fixes out there? I'll try the button on the dash tomorrow as earlier when opening the door the F1 pump being primed pushed the battery down again and retriggered the alarm. Don't want to upset the neighbours with another alarm at this time so won't open the door.

I have found that my other cars don't respond well to being charged up whilst still connected. I would disconnect the positive terminal wire and charge the battery up.

Let the cars engine run for 20 mins or so,then turn the car off and restart. Everything should reset, including the EPB and God knows what else.

Checked today after the car been on charge for the last 24 hours. I pushed the hooks back over with the boot open so that they were in the locked position. This switched off the boot light so suggests that other plunger thing is just something to make the boot open slightly and the catch itself tells the car if the boot is open or closed.

Then pressed the button on the dash and it pinged open. So back to normal now.

These cars and their batteries are amusing :)

The time mine went flat the warning lights came on like a Christmas tree: 'A/C failure', 'Brake failure', 'Go to dealer'. A new battery solved everything.

Glad to hear yours is sorted.

Yeah, but where does all the electricity go? This car had a brand new Silver Bosch battery in Feb/Mar but still it went flat in about 4 weeks. Had a low battery before where it wouldn't start but this time not even those little LED's on the doors lit up! Manually opened the boot, connected the trickle charger then the alarm starting going off until it got some power in there. Does the alarm have a separate supply or capacitor?
Wouldn't fancy leaving one of these at an airport for a few weeks!

Do you know whether the car has a tracker device fitted? Apparently, once their own battery has run down, they take their power from the car's battery

Yeah it has a tracker and that was serviced about 3 years ago. Not sure how long their batteries last. Some Maserati tech told me that even when these cars are off many of the systems are still working.

Yeah, but where does all the electricity go?

It's a mystery. Maybe there is a hole in floor where it drains through!

Trackers are a known problem. Some have removed them for this reason.

My previous cars have been equally loaded with electric toys, auto-this and auto-that, but I've had no problems leaving them for up to four weeks at a time; never even gave it a moment's thought. My QP, even with a new battery, doesn't like being left.

I keep it permanently wired up to a life support machine, er battery conditioner, now.

Yes, I would be very nervous leaving it in an airport car park for several weeks.

I think as they are demanding mistresses it's their way of making sure you don't ignore them.

You just have to accept it with modern Maserati. I had flattened the battery on mine within three months of my car being delivered. It was a factory order too so was only five months old.

It seems that they need a long run to compensate for each starting cycle so you can be running your battery down whilst still using the car without realising it.

I have the trickle charger and my car is garages. No idea what I would do if I lived in a city and used on street parking.

I gave up trying to find the cause on my QPv and fitted a negative battery earth isolator which I bought on e bay for £5. Worked a treat with the battery certainly retaining power for 8 weeks which was the longest I ever left it. It just meant that I had to reset the clock and digital speedo settings when I reconnected.

I park my QP under an all weather cover in the car park of my apartment block. I live on the top floor and with the help of the complex's window cleaner, I've run a cable from a socket in my kitchen, out of the kitchen window, down two and a half storeys of wall to where the car is parked. The power cable is mated to the trickle charger unit inside a weather proof box. I had to swap parking places with a neighbour so that the run would be reasonably short.

Well impressed. How many TVs run off it too??

Do your lights flicker in the adverts during Coronation when people put their kettles on?

Or does everyone in London have those Quooker taps instead? I don't understand those myself.

What's not to understand? It's like an old geyser..... (insert reference to SM member here)
