QP v California

Had the California now for 7 weeks and have done 2000 miles already. I read on the other forum that values plummet with anything above normal 'Garage Queen' mileage but then someone commented it is a bit like 'not sha....g your girlfriend because you want to keep her in good nick for the next bloke'.

Anyway the Cali is everything it is meant to be, loud, fast and inyer face, but this Sunday I popped upto Leicester (150mls each way) in the QP and am convinced that the QP is the best all round piece of kit anyone ever wants. Especially at 6:00 am on the A34.

The way it just goes coupled with its natural majestic looks is on another planet compared to any other saloon (and most so called sports cars) on the market and after spending 2000 mls in the Cali and loving every minute beating up the French A roads I'm even more convinced I was right to keep the QP until I'm sat in a corner of some nursing home happily dribbling down the front of my Maserati overalls and starting every sentence with those immortal words 'when I was...........'.

Cancelled the GT Sport because although it is a fantadstic car it was in many ways just a 2 door QP and too similar whereas the Cali is the perfect foil giving the bits the QP can't.

My apologies for being a partial traitor but thought the comparison might be interesting. or not!!!!!!!!!

Two great cars. Fully understand why you cancelled the GranTurismo as it is too similar to the QP relative to the Cali.

In fact just realised we have similar cars. I too have a LR truck and a convertible - latter is a fraction the price of a Cali mind.

Apparently, the Cali was supposed to be a Maserati before Ferrari re badged it so really, you have two Masers although one has a slightly naff horse on it! The front of the blue Cali (behind yours) looks very much like a 4200 spyder.

I agree with your comments re QP GT, I've had mine 20 months, in that time it has done the weekly shop, commuting, arriving in style at posh hotels, lapped the Nurburgring, travelled to Lake Garda via Stelvio..
& is smoother now with 50k on it than when bought it!
Absolutely love it!
Now..If I could just open the door when reversing :)

interesting comment - did think it was strange why they released a front engine car, think 456 was the last one

was Cali the 1st design of the replacement Gransport, sort of like it if you put the side vents

oh and less of the naff horse :)

doh... how did I forget the 599... drive the FXX version every other weekend....

612... did anyone buy one, never seen one other than at a garage or in mags. even do search on google images didn't bring up many owner pics.

going back to the thread subject - the Cali and QP is a great balance for fun and touring

I too had mixed feelings when it was launched but after seing it on the road in Silverstone Grey with Beige leather I was smitten especially as it is quicker to 60 by 0.4 of a second than the 430 scud which does p..s off some of the more purist Ferrari owners who saw it as a sop to the Yank market.

If Maserati had made a 2 seat spider version of the gt with a decent boot Ferrari would not have sold anything like the numbers or at least not to me.
Thanks all for the favourable comments.

Octane and EVO both did comprehensive reviews on the Cali and concluded that it was a "real" Ferrari and every bit worthy of the tag "supercar". Personally I love the look of them and would have one over a 430 or 458 if I could afford it.

The Cali got a bit of a kicking at launch but to me those that did not like it missed the point. I really like them.

But the Cali is a very decent car, its just that its a bit outside their normal range of cars and they never quite did it for me, whereas the QP is very much a car type Maserati made more of over the decades
