QPV FAQ (probably)

The fitted luggage set will solve packing issues. We go to Europe every in our QPV (just back) 3 peeps for 3 weeks and the fitted luggage set plus soft bag all go in the boot. They are quite hard to get hold of, but getting similar made would solve the issue.

I think my setup is pretty close to the fitted luggage level of efficiency. Mind you, what you see is two people for 10 days, plus 4 handbags, two coats and Waitrose freezer bag strewn all over the back seat!

Thinking more around this, I think there might be something around pheasants and air conveyors (like mine) that leads to sufficient birds onboard to reduce the need to fit more ducks in the boot.

By the way @scampbird mine sits on the drive and I do little mileage because I don't work anywhere at all these days if I can help it.
I love it to bits. From what you've written so far, I think you'll be head over heals with yours too.
Let us know when you've seen one you like the look of. I looked at and drove, maybe eight before I found the one I have. You could probably do it quicker if you had more budget than I had.
We could point you to some highly regarded dealers.

Oh, and by the way @scampbird , if you live anywhere near me, you're welcome to to come and see mine, drive out in it somewhere, get to hear it and hear about it.
I'm in Surrey.

Going to see one will just make you want one more.

All you can do is do your checks and buy a nice one. This however does not guarantee no big bills every now and again. Engine/gearbox generally bulletproof. Suspension bits and electrical items less so! None of it cheap of course.
I was only going to have mine 18 months or so, to tick a box as you say, but 4.1/2 years later still have it. There really isn’t anything like them for the money, or even for more money. Mine will have to go soon due to other car now arrived and uni fees to find soon but I’ll be most upset when it’s gone. And if I somehow come into a load of money and more space it’s going nowhere!

Haha, I can beat that.

I bought mine fully intending to keep it a year or so, just to scratch the itch. It's eleven years and counting now. I just can't think of another car to replace it with which would do what it does.
Great to hear yours is still going strong :)

Thanks Richard.

For those new to the forum, Richard supplied mine in 2012, after a long search, and in common with all his carefully curated stock, it has been a good 'un. Nothing has gone wrong with it apart from one coil pack giving up the ghost.

Thanks for the offer - I'm up in North Oxfordshire and finding my weekends disappear into a world of family commitments. So whilst I'm near in galactic terms, maybe not near enough :)

I have been keeping my eye on Autotrader, criteria being anything 4.7 with a ZF box (is that all 4.7s? GTS was DuoSelect?) and something that doesn't have pages of MOT advisories. Oh and isn't at a dealer with horrific user reviews, plenty of those. Was hoping to be around 20k mark.

I would have thought that "around £20k" should get you a good one.
Anyone think differently?
Should get you a very good 2008-2011 4.7 S depending mostly on miles and what work needs doing. Better IMHO to get a fairly high mileage but well sorted car than something that needs fixing.

Thanks all. I'm not entirely put off yet so you've all more work to do :D

One other question, I've searched and it looks like the boot is pretty small (amazing design effort for such a massive car) - can it get a full size suitcase in?

Two bodies in the boot without an issue. It is an Italian car after all…

Anyone used SBR Engineering (Aylesbury) for servicing? Or any other recommended specialists in Oxon/bucks?
Yes I do. No complaints whatsoever, very efficient and knowledgeable and can be pragmatic about recommending options for parts - ie if there's a perfectly good alternative they know about, then they will suggest it.
And yes they have some very exotic stuff in there most of the time

Cheers Ian

I'm on my third one, a 4.7S, and from my experience are no more expensive to run than the German fleet fodder. Tyre's are roughly the same size, fuel consumption, tax and insurance all on a par. Servicing can be a touch more, but there is a very good independent network that can bring that back to be into contention. The spare parts can hurt somewhat when required, but there are good equivalents available.
In my opinion, nothing else can compare. It's a hand built Italian super car, it's never going to be cheap to run or maintain. If you try to compare it against the volume manufacturers, well it just can't compete because it's not a level playing field.
Compare it to an Aston, Ferrari or something else exotic & it's a bargain with a capital F!
It's that badge that gets me, every time. The history behind it, the heritage makes it all worth it. And that sound is just.........
It's also much better received than the German option, people let you out at junctions & generally have something nice to say when they see it.
But I'm an enthusiast, shouldn't listen to me too much.....
The trouble is they have dropped to 6/7/8k and people assume it's cheap to run because it's cheap to buy. That's when reality usually hits, hard!
Someone else gave the best advice, buy a higher mileage one, something that has been and is being used, regularly. I know lots of people who buy low mileage cars then they spring oil leaks, water leaks & suspension issues when pressed into action.
In my opinion.
Good luck in your search.
