QPV power steering fluid flush

Hi guys,

Hope everyone is well. Not been on for a while. My 3 girls keeping me very busy indeed but finally blowing the dust off the QPV (2004 Duo-select). For the first time, I've decided to get my hands dirty on the old girl! :love4:

Already done the oil and filter change (what a bar steward that cover on the filter is! the top screw/bolt is almost unreachable). Gonna change the coolant, aux belt and air filter too over next few days.

Got a quick question as regards the power steering fluid. I'm referencing the diagram below.

I would like to drain and refill the fluid. Anyone done this before? It looks pretty simple. There are two pipes that lead to the long thin power steering heat exchanger that sits in front of the rad. The top one (item 20 in diagram) leads to the PAS reservoir/tank up above and the lower one (item 16 in diagram) leads to the steering box.

To drain the fluid, is it just a case of draining fluid through the bottom pipe that runs between the heat exchanger and the steering box (or perhaps both pipes?).

Once drained, I presume it's just a case of refitting the pipes securely and refilling the reservoir to the appropriate level right?

Finally, anyone know what spec and brand of power steering fluid that Maserati officially recommend?

Any help/advice appreciated.

Cheers, Dhanj

Hi, did this on mine last year, when once fluid is refilled to half way on reservoir, start engine & turn steering gently from lock to lock to bleed air out of system, will vent via the reservoir so leave cap off, then top up to full.

Any PS fluid will work fine

Cheers

Thanks Dave, how did you drain the fluid when you did yours mate?

Drained from the heat exchanger rad, fluid all up my arm, leave the cap on until pipes free, get drain tray under then release the cap.
That's what I should have done...
Cheers

Got it Dave. Makes sense to leave the cap on until you have the pipe pointing into the drain pan making sure it also sits under the heat exchanger nipple.
