Quattroporte 5 Wheels Geometry

Hello all,
Last month, after searching for over a year, I took in a few deep breaths of fresh air and I purchased a 2009 Quattroporte Sport Gt S, which was driven only about 5200 km, equipped to tick all my wish list and I have a few questions. (excuse my english)

1. Can some one explain what's with Q5 front axle wheels geometry ? When I bought the car I noticed that while under max turn left or right, from a stand still if you don't start slowly there are some knocking sounds like one of the wheels skips. At a Maserati service in Berlin, the engineer there tried explaining that it's normal because of wide wheels and wheels geometry, but between my english and his german our hands got tired really soon so we had to cut the conversation short :).

2. I have the oval exhaust pipes, while browsing the net, I got confused about what type of gearbox I have. Can someone help out?

More questions to come.

Looking forward to your help
Thank you

Hi Christian,
Have a little look on wiki for 'Ackermann steering geometry', this should explain q1...
although I would check it is the actual tyres skipping rather than knocks indicating some wear in a suspension component.
Regards,
Enzo.

In the case of Ackermann steering geometry, there should be no skipping. The engineer in Berlin, I think, tried explaining something different.
I also had the car checked up at that time and everything was in order no wear. The car is in almost brand new condition.

The sound is louder when the tires are cold. And the front tires are a little bit worn on the outside. I was told by the same engineer that that happened due to hard cornering.

Regards your gearbox question. It's an Auto ZF gearbox in all Quattroporte GTS'. The duo-select was an automated manual which was fazed out in 2007/8.
