Quattroporte Problems

Can't get to the equivalent sheet right now, but it's a bog standard relay either 4 or 5 prongs depending.

If I recall correctly, BMW E36 ABS relay will do nicely.

Personally I am not at all convinced by the arguments for changing it. It's a switch, is all. If you hear the F1 pump start when you open the door and stop shortly after, you're not in danger of burning out your pump.

Keeping a spare is probably a good idea if it suddenly decides to stop energising the pump, as it'll give you a 'get me home' card, but there's a load of stuff that is more likely to stop the car from working that that (*I* think*)

Still, it's only £8 or so, so meh :)

I am not sure how long it takes for a pump to burn out if the relay fails, what to do and when...on a practical level?

Not really an easy answer to that. More than a few seconds at least. I'd be surprised if it was less than an hour, but....

or is that not what you're really asking?

Well if pump in continuous action for 5 min, 10, 20....enough to burn it out?

P

Well that is the million dollar question, innit.

I'd be surprised if it was less than 20 minutes, but that's something of a guess. The fuse blowing should be the first symptom that there is a problem. When the motor starts to struggle the current draw will rise, and the fuse protects it. In theory.

Still monitoring, the car has only cut out twice, it's like it stalls, at low speed but been ok since.

The F1 pump primes fine when the door is opened but I'll keep an eye on it.
