OK, Major Boothroyd was the character from the books and I believe mentioned in Dr No & The Spy Who Loved Me films at least

I'll jump in with a quick and easy one that I think has been mentioned before elsewhere but who's father, in real life, was a bond villan named after?

Okay

I am a bit of a Bond geek so we'll stick with that theme.

In the later books and most of the films Bond's handgun of choice is Walther PPK however what make and model was it in the earlier books (I think about the first 5 or 6) and for an extra geek point who was it in real life who recommended to Ian Fleming that bond should change to a Walther PPK

I'd guess at the Browning 9mm which was standard issue when I was in.
I did fire that pistol in a competition but found that I was better a throwing it at the target than I was firing...I'm OK with rifles though...

Presumably the standard sidearm of Naval Intelligence (contradiction of terms) during WW2, whatever that was. I'd guess at a lightweight, easily concealed, automatic which rules out the heavy and bulky Colt .45 Auto, so I'd go for a Beretta of some kind.

.25 Beretta. A lady's gun. With a skeleton grip

M gave him the PPK when the Beretta jammed on him, or maybe just didn't have enough stopping power. Can't quite recall
