Rain/Weather

Had to go out today, and had to take the AC. Weather was terrible, bouncing rain, then dried slightly so greasy roads. Can see now how easy you can come to grief in one of these. Coming from TVRs with 360-380bhp through the rears still didn't prepare me for how easily the 3200 can break away, Think it's more to do with the non linear throttle response and the way they "spool up".
Found if I kept revs below 2500 and tried to keep the turbos out of the equation then managed not too badly.
Take care out there if you must go out in the wet.

Sage advice Allan. I know of two 3200's that are no more as a result of the awful weather over the past couple of weeks. Great fun in the dry, but need to be treated with respect in the wet, as the spool up and 'trigger point' on the throttle combine to conspire against the unwary.

Allan,
Totally agree with your comments.....
Soon as that wet stuff appears I drive like a 90 year old grandmother, can't stand wifey balling in my ear "IT'S RAINING D1CKHEAD - she wants to kill you"

Had mine 7yrs........I can tell you did the right thing, keep off them turbos...

Something else I have noticed with the damaged 3200 I seen....tyre choice or lack of ! 3 of the cars had different makes of tyres on fronts to rears, one had 3 types of tyres ! Why do people play silly bu99ers with tyre choice....
1 type allround for me.

Mine still goes out in rain and snow and agreed with Paul, the correct tyres and decent tyres helps but also a bit of experience/training on skid cars etc goes a long way to keeping you safe on the road

Mine goes out in all weathers as well. I'll be out all weekend in it and I'll drive accordingly. Just watch those white lines, man hole covers, over banding, pot holes, puddles, flooded HGV wheel ruts on the motorways, and anything else lying in wait to kill you! Lets be careful out there.

Had great fun in the snow in the GS a year or so ago. Nobody on the road, just hanging the rear out....only at low speeds.

On the 4200 you have a snow button which limits the revs to about 2500rpm does the 3200 not have one of those? From memory I though mine did?

When out in the rain, aqua locking the engine is the main thing you want to look out for.

The Masers definitely benefit from winter tyres....a good investment from Nov -March........otherwise too much power too little grip....bad recipe!

Mine is out in all weathers too......but take a front wheel drive when grip is poor.............I cross B/C class roads....pretty awful even in summer

Im in UK at moment, and weather yesterday, was horrid. Wife in Spain, is complaining, she cannot sleep, as its 40+ degrees! Plus, bless her heart, she is missing me.
Way to drive in rain, as taught to me, by a specialist, is to drive a gear up, so you are never in the revs. And braking should not be one hard shove, but several brake presses. Common sense prevails!!

I usually spend a large part of the winter in the Alps and whenever I keep a banger over there I always have winter tyres on it. It is quite a pleasure to romp past beached 4x4s flailing around going nowhere because they are on the wrong tyres.

I can't bring myself to face the expense of buying a winter set of rims and tyres for my QP as not only would it be an expensive investment but I can't really see myself using a QP in the Alps.

The Alps are very ******* cars; it's not just the obvious salt and dirt on the roads but the number of parking knocks rises exponentially (especially with French parking techniques), people drop skis on cars and the interiors get thrashed from wet winter clothing and slush.

But apart from that I would have no hesitation about driving it in the snow. I bet it would be a laugh :)
