Rattling Exhaust Backbox Valves - QP GT S...

... per the thread title my exhaust valves started playing up intermittently about 12 months ago, manifesting itself as a nasty horrible metallic-sounding rattle from both backboxes. The problem seemed especially worse in normal mode vs sport, but could be heard in both - to begin with it could only be heard with application of throttle, as it got worse it would rattle away during idle: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1wK0K0hgSwQ

Hats off to SportsItalia for sourcing a set of replacement exhaust valves and installing/welding them in for me - my car sounds proper-like again! Would highly recommend giving Matt and co a shout if your car develops similar problems... much, much cheaper than buying a set of replacement backboxes.

Thanks Daniel for persisting with us, it took us two different suppliers to get it right. FYI, cheap valves are a no go, as Daniel will testify to.

We now supply and fit in-house over using a third party so called expert. Our Kev is a brilliant welder.

I am currently having the same rattle problem inside the passanger side exhauste box with my 2020 Levante. Would you mind sharing the source of the replacement valves?

I have this issue with my Gransport boxes... anyone come across that before? And is it the same fix?

I think I have this on my GT, I am going to cut the boxes open and just remove the valves, she will be a bit more loud, but hopefully not too loud. On my mine it is tinny rattle at about 2-3000 revs, not cool.

It will be quite a lot louder.....

The valves are not in the boxes, but on the outside, so gutting them won't solve that issue.

Please post video of before after sound and pics of what you find inside the boxes.

The earlier GTs had the valves inside the box using springs and exhaust pressure like the QP does (I believe the internals are identical).
Will do a video on it when I do it. just got to change all oils, fit accumulator and change engine mounts first.

Ahh, I thought you had valved boxes already. Interesting. Never thought there were valves in my 57 plate, but be interesting to see what you find when you gut it. It will be loud though :)
