Rear seat removal

Hi - wonder if you can help? I need to remove the rear seats of my 3200 owing to water ingress and am really struggling.

I can find http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/showthread.php/7456-GT-Rear-Seat-REMOVAL but this is for a 4200 and as I say they are not the same.

I've removed the small panel behind the armrest but there are no further rixings behind it. I can free the top of the seats however they are secured at the base and I am reluctant to force anything.

Would appreciate any help/pics/videos!

Many thanks

Jules

Pretty sure they are the same, just watch you dont tear or scuff the leather, its easily done.

yes i have removed the complete back seats, its not that hard. It is quirky too. You need to remove the seat backs first. For the seat backs the movement you need is to try and press the top of the seat down while pulling it out too. Its not an easy thing to get right, but there are no bolts its just metal spring clips, it just pulls out. once the seat backs are off the seat base just lifts easy i think.

Hi JulianSayer, did you finaly succeeded to remove the back seat?

From the Service Maintenance, I understand that you need first to remove the seat cushion by pushing it backward and then lifting it... but it don't move at all !

The whole thing is held in by springs in the frame of the cushions. Its very elegant because there are no fixings visible. I quite like it. Up until the point you can feel the springs compress it does feel pretty solid, it requires faith!

Hi Chaps - many thanks for your help - I've been away so apologies for my delayed reply. I have the top[ of the seat backs off their fitting so I can get my arm down the back but no amount of pulling and pushing will release them from the bottom fixing which is hidden either side of the arm rest - thats the only place that the seat backs are secured - any further suggestions?

Many thanks

If I may also ask a question, I've taken the top of the right rear seat off the clip/spring bit now I can not push it back in. Do I have to take the whole seat off before putting it back, or is there some knack to it? Thanks

There is a knack to it and its a royal pain in the *&(. it takes an alarming amount of compression and pushing to get the spring clip back under the retainer. I have done it and its a real fiddle. Would be good to hear from anyone who has worked out a proper technique? but i think it requires more force than i was really comfortable applying to it. It needs compressed from above, i.e. you push down on the whole seat frame and bend it into submission, while at the same time pushing it back into the rear of the car and try to let it expand upwards without releasing the pressure in the rear direction. its something like this
Have good look at the clip arrangement before attempting it, you can judge how far down the wire loop has to get to engage with the clip.

If I may also ask a question, I've taken the top of the right rear seat off the clip/spring bit now I can not push it back in. Do I have to take the whole seat off before putting it back, or is there some knack to it? Thanks

Would have to get to my car and take some pics of this to show you how my car is held together, perhaps this weekend, except i don't really want to take them out again as they are so hard to put back..... i will see.
have you looked up the workshop manual for the page on the seats?

On the 3200GT the trick is to remove the bottom cushion first then the back of the rear seat. To remove the bottom of the cushion, move the front seat forward the kneel on the rear footwell, stick your fingers under the cushion towards the outer side of the car and you'll feel the tab. Pull upwards and it should come loose. Ensure you have fingers either side of the latch then give it a real good yank. You don't need to do anything other then pull upwards hard.

Attached are the photos of the clip on the bottom of the cushion and the hole in the floor of the car this tab goes into.

Next, remove the seatbelt bolts - that's what's holding the seat cushion inplace. Finally push down on the top of the rear cushion to unlatch the clip described by Julian.

Photos are of the seatbelt bolt and the latch at the top of the rear cushion.
