Reminder. Its Mother's Day in the UK next Sunday. What will you be getting her?

F**k me! On one hand, I'm sorry I ever started this thread. On another, yes now you mention it, it was a French chick in Edinburgh who I blew a romp in the hay with, because an English/French language swap descended into an argument on this precise point. We hit the this Sunday/next Sunday iceberg. I suggested that we agree to disagree, to try to reintroduce some cordiale to our conversation, but on that day at least, I was out for no runs :(
On yet another hand (Mr Debrett will be spinning in his grave by now) I'm a bit glad that I started this thread, despite it disappearing down a grammatical rabbit hole, if it gives 'the boys' the opportunity to share anecdotes about their mothers.
Mothers-in-law, I would suggest, would be best left to another thread entirely!

Blimey.
While it is important to get the right day, does it really need this much in depth discussion? :)

My dear old mum popped her clogs a couple of years ago at 96 years of age, part Italian, part French, her passport said English!
As a family we always had to stand to attention on mothers day come what may!

Mine went when I was a few month old... and shorty after the ****** who brought me into being sodded off leaving me with the council... Still got a second mum who is great and will get something nice... her ex husband gets nill however... he's a bigger **** than the first wayward 'father'*

*in the very loosest term of being anything like a parent.

What stands out to me Peter is how well you've done, work hard and you can achieve anything , your mum must be very proud of you.

Works best on portraits I did it on a group shot and my dad ended up as a ginger with my uncle picking up a punkish green tinge from a tree

Lost my Mum in 1988 when I was 28 to the big C, remember when they bought a brand new Fiat 131 super mirafiore, she loved that car, and was the first car I drove when I passed my test.

My mum died 35 years ago at 49 , 2 weeks after my 25th birthday , I still miss her

When you're 25 49 seems a long way away but when you get there you realise just how young it is

Just found an app that adds colour to old b&w pictures

Brought a tear to my eye that, very similar situation to me..Except Mum was 55 I was 31. Never felt I had a proper adult relationship with her, I was still a ******* adolescent at 30.
Made worse by the fact I found out only this week from my Dad, that she reported a lump to GP that they gave her antibiotics for, and only blood tested her or biopsied 6 months later when a second lump appeared. Stage 4 Lymphoma at that point.
Been through a cancer scare of my own last few weeks (scan clear thank ****) age 49. Certainly brought it all back horribly

My Mum is still with us............ except she's not really.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimers around 5 years ago and although we will celebrate Mothers Day with her she will think that we are just some nice people who have brought gifts and flowers, she hasn't recognised us for some time now and her speech is failing.
She seems happy and well in herself though, for which we are grateful, but she is falling ever more rapidly into this dreadful disease.

Like a lot of others on here, mine passed away far too young. Still miss her every day even though its been 25 years now. Having a young granddaughter reminds me every day how short-lived our time here is so I hope
all of you who are able to and want to to wish your mums everything that I didn't do for her at the time.

My mum’s still with us and will be 83 this year fit and healthy. We lost my sister 20 years ago aged 30 and my brother last year aged 54. So I’ll be on treble ceremony as it’s probably going to be a difficult day for her. She won’t show it though British stiff upper lip and all that. Luckily she’s in our support bubble so we can keep an eye on her.

Haven’t seen my Mum for 6 years and frankly cant see that changing anytime soon. Luckily she”s fit, able and mentally strong which has helped her get through this palaver till now.
