Renault Alpine

I bought a new Alpine in August 1989. A red, normally aspirated car. Here she is:

This was taken on a trip over to France in early 1990. I won't go into all of the gory details of my ownership. But, a couple of years into my ownership, the car developed overheating problems. SHe was in the local Renault dealers for so long that my daughter, then a toddler, gave our replacement courtesy car a nickname.

Anyhow, Renault never got to the bottom of the problem and in the end, they bought the car back off of me. End of story.....

Until, earlier this year, when I was queuing up to get into a Pistonheads meet. There before me was MY CAR !!! Battered, paint peeling off the plastic panels and looking decidedly ropey. But, there she was, G400 XBX. It was great to see her again. Here she is.

The present owner let me sit in her and I may have enquired how much he would take for her. Because, for all of her faults, she was tremendous fun to drive. One of those cars that I have the fondest memories of.

I'm almost certain I know him. Used to work with him when he had the Lotus (company car!). He also owned a place in France, so this is likely to be much more than a coincidence, especially as I remember him showing some pics of a trip he did with a red Alpine & red Porsche.

What a coincidence that is!!!!

Yes, he was the owner of the Lotus. Can't remember his name. My ex-wife is in the middle of that group. Her best friend's husband owned the Porsche and we went over to your acquaintance's place in France. A good trip that was.

Don't know what became of him. Here's one of the three cars.

A really bizarre coincidence! I remember it because of the 3 red cars. The owner/driver is called Greg, I won't post his surname on a forum he knows nothing about. He used to let his colleagues borrow the Lotus quite regularly, which was very cool when I was only 22! Just a shame it wasn't a turbo.

Great pic btw - could be something from an old copy of Evo; road test of 3 contemporaries of the era!

Ah yes, Greg. Nice guy.

But, it was also a long, long time ago. My wife was pregnant at the time of that trip. Our daughter is now 21. I've no idea where the years went.

ETA: Here's a few more shots of that trip.

The 964 was never regarded as a good looker when it came out..Remember ready many articles that were not kind to the way it looked...But the drive was good...
