Review in this months EVO....4.5 STARS OUT OF FIVE...

Plus - Best everyday Granturismo yet.
Minus - Starting to get long in the tooth.

Sum up -
Handsome, charismatic, sporting and everyday useable, the automatic Granturismo Sport is the car Maserati always promised us. It's a shame its taken 5 years to get here.

They do say that the MC Shift automated manual car drives much the same as it did before and remains the obvious choice for the hardcore Maserati fan but the new MC Autoshift automatic version is very different. Maserati have managed to change the shift gearchange time on the ZF six speed gearbox tojust 200ms when sport mode is selected. Thats half of what it was before and the gearbox now blips the engine on downshifts making the driving characteristics of the two boxes much closer than they were before.

Evo have always been nice to Maserati. Ithink they even had a Ghibili at one time as a staff car

It does say that the Ferrari 4.7 litre engine has to rank as one of the worlds great power units and in this specification feels like it has finally come of age...High praise there...

Yep, Harry had a Ghibli Cup in red.....Always looked forward to reading his experiences with her...It made me want one sooooo much back then.

Personally I look forward to driving both new and old auto 4.7s back to back to really find out as road tests are prone to positively comment on facelifts when the changes are really minor.

To my mind the really change is the seats which look sublime.

It mentions in the review that to get the full BHP upgrade you need to use 98 RON fuel, do you guys use 98 much, or do you stick with standard.

Cheers

A bit of both. Performance and fuel economy *seem* better with 98 , but that may just be my imagination.

It does seem from the review that the Auto is a different animal to the 1st one....But I would imagine you would need a back to back drive to decide.

Always use the highest RON fuel I can get. V-Power, Tesco 99, and BP Ultimate, in that order.

The mpg gain compensates for the higher price, and you get better perfomance and a cleaner engine.
