I took apart a 4,7 V8 engine and the picture shows you the rod bearings I found. All down to the copper....

To be honest I don´t know the mileage of the engine and which oil was used and if the oil change was done regulary, but I wanted to share what I found.

So maybe if your engine has some mileage you should consider a change of the bearings.

I'm not used to v8's but have worked on many other engine bottom ends. Normally if I was going to change the con rod bearings, I would be doing ALOT of other work at the same time (mains bearings, check rods/crank for ovality, oil pump, new chains, full top end (bores, pistons, valves/heads).... basically it would be a full rebuild. It is a little alien to me to just "think" of changing the rod bearings, unless miraculously the rest of the engine components were within spec.... How is the rest of the engine looking?

Main bearings looks pretty "used". Will post also pictures.

Sleeves are ok, also Pistons, Conrods, Camshafts and the Crank.

Have you been able to find the measurements for the various components and tolerance?

Yes. There is a 4200cc wet sump overhaul
Manual online.

Just google it. There you will find everything for the 4200cc, the 4700 is very similar.

I haven't seen to many bearing issues like on a M engine by normal use, usually something happen to trigger it.
And I've seen a lot of high millage examples in the shop.
