Rusty Screws!

Anyone else with rusty screws? Rear number plate plinth , after random "bulb out" warnings i traced it down to the rear number plate light on the nearside flickering on and off , fine, change of bulb time, ermm no ,the small screws holding the lights in were a bit worse for wear and I couldn't get them out. No problem I thought , I'll just unscrew the full plinth. Errrm nope! They were corroded as well and wouldn't budge a bit. Ended up having to drill them out with a 5mm drill bit, they are M5 BTW, and so was faced with this, which is really the point of my post, if you have rusty screws in there get them out before what's underneath gets too bad, luckily what I have should be treatable without having to break out the welder!

Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean its not there!

Yep, mine were the same. Had to drill them, but ended up with a piece rattling about inside the boot lid for ages, until it eventually worked itself out. All treated and ok for now.

Common thing then, I have new stainless screws on order (M5x20 & no4x13 for the lights) and some stainless M5 rivnuts, , i also ordered 2 new light units from eurospares which they have emailed me to say they are struggling to source. Doing a bit of digging they appear to be the same as used on the fiat turbo coupe and the fiat cinquecento. Does anyone know of an alternative part for the light units?
Thanks in advance

Odd. When I add them they show as £19.22

Have you called Ross at Meridian?

C

They showed that price for me as well last week, so I went ahead and ordered a pair. then i had an email to let me know they were struggling to source any (NLA), eventually finding a pair in Italy today, sent me a pro-forma listing the cost. I haven't tried Meridian no, I will give them (Ross?) a call tomorrow and see, as Eurospares now need to know if I wish to proceed with the order.

So, the replacements came yesterday, Fiat Cinquecento units, £6/piece , fit like a glove just the connector requires changing/splicing to the Maserati type.

I believe the Fiat Coupe ones fit as well, feel free to add to the alternative parts thread.
Thanks

Errm probably not Allan, then again I don't plan on selling for a long, long, long time, and if I did I would like it to be 100% Maserati. Yes I am that Anal about things like that, let's just call it car OCD! :rofl5:
