Hmmm...maybe they have wised up to the blandness of the new models and that they are already old school compared to new BMW Merc and Audi.

The two new saloons are ok and are selling in reasonable volumes of 30,000 units pa combined. They need the Levante to double this. Add in Alfieri variants and 70,000+ units pa seems possible.

PS What was interesting in the 2014 stats is how few units the GT/GC sell (3500 combined).

Compared to the older and other models the Ghibli seems to have flooded the market...by Maserati standards that is....Same cars for sale and don't seem to be selling well.........Dick Lovett have 14 GHibli's for sale...Understand that MAserati are looking at a different Market for these cars but that still seems a lot for one dealer.

I thought that once the flush of youth was done and dusted the Ghibli diesel would be seen as an overpriced underperforming mass produced middle management motorway plugger. All dealers have plenty for sale and 35k would by an early one. But 35k would also buy a lot of other cars too.

Wrong car for the wrong market......should have been the 159 replacement. No doubt later in the year we will see a 500+ bhp version with single rate shocks, lowered by 20mm with an 8 speed box with 195mph and 0 to 60 in 4 secs........any bets???..... Sadly though this should have been their first attempt not the rescue attempt.

I would have to agree......I really hoped the GHibli would be a real success as it will generate money for the type of models we all love from Maserati......

I agree with all your sentiments about the car but if you can buy one for £35k, I'll have two please. Cheapest I have been offered have been early £40k's. The cars that are advertised, even though there are a massive glut of them, are pretty much non-negotiable price-wise; other than say a token £500 off.

It appears that Maserati are sending dealers a set amount of random spec cars a month on top of the ones they sell. This may be why the early 'sales' figures were so good as they were 'sold' from the factory but not necessarily onto the public. It would also account for the glut of unsold stock lying around the network. It should follow that the price will have to start falling as more cars come behind them and stocks build. I reckon Maserati did it this way to try and build a 'must have' reputation by showing massive initial sales which is a bit of a gamble. The problem is, is that when people realise they aren't selling as well as first thought they will steer clear and continue buying German.

Whilst the car maybe average, the allure of the badge on a new company barge is for £50k is very compelling for many.

There may appear to be many used ones for sale but you need to look at that in the context of what Maserati now sells pa rather than what it used to. There is no glut of these cars any more than there is of other brands in the same price space. This price point for diesel sales is very competitive and big visible discounts and larger discounts to leasing companies are pretty common. Before the crash I bought a six month old 300 mile 535d for £36k that listed at £48k. They are all at it...

I stand corrected Richard but I heard first hand of overly generous part ex offered to secure a sale of a demo car which was still declined after a test drive. Presumably the sticker price is important for current image.

Tbh, if I could get a Ghibli V6 S for under US$100k here in Oz, I would be more than willing to buy one.

In top spec. I think the Ghibli is still attractive.

Wonder if the S is struggling to sell in the UK or is it more the entry level cars

I think we should all stop talking about the diesel Ghibli as we are not the target audience. I've driven an S with skyhook and it was a good drive. Too expensive viz a viz M5 mind.

It's because they need people to buy them to provide the company with the money to develop new models like the Alfieri. The XF is a proven seller so they created something similar because they know people like them.

The XF has been a big success for Jaguar....And I can see why. It is still a great looking car and from what owners on here have said a great car to drive and own. There is a replacement soon I believe.
