She's alive!...old seiko watch

Took my old seiko quartz chronograph to a specialist watch repairer today.
A bit special, it was my 18th birthday present in the mid 80's.
Ok not a Cartier, maybe £150 back then, but a watch I can remember lusting after through the shop window, the worlds first quartz chronograph.
It died 20 years ago, and at the time I was told it was not repairable due to battery corrosion.
Anyway today the specialist took the back off to have a look, and then proceeded to 'jump start' the circuitry to see if it had a 'pulse'!
I was like an expectant father, with my fingers crossed, and it worked!
It will cost me a few hundred in new old stock parts, reclaimed parts, cleaning and pressure testing, but should be as good as new.
Recently discovered that it was also the last Seiko watch worn by James Bond in a View to a kill, how cool is that!
Just thought I would share.

From my point of view, 2 years is a long time! I'd rather have them in front of me than behind me as I'm sure you would!!

Its funny I also took in my TAG for a new battery at the same time that is probably worth in money 20 times more, but for me my old seiko is priceless!
You do certainly put different values on stuff when you get older.

That's a handsome watch, Mike. Very nice and easily on a par with what you could buy today.

Having had maybe five or so of my Dad's and Grandad's watches stolen last week (and then was briefly reunited with them at the police station on Friday) I realised how timeless (boom, boom!) lots of classic watch designs are. I'll be getting them gradually recommissioned when the police can release them back to me, though God knows when that will be!
