You make a valid point
ThanksOooh sorry, missed that chap.
Things have moved on a bit, and it depends on what your budget it to a large extent. I'd get myself to a decent HiFi emporium and start listening.
From memory we had B+W 601s and moved on pretty sharpish. Monitor Audio GR10s as they were, were a revelation. Amazing speakers for stands (again at the time, but that was 15 years back) I'd have no issues looking at their current offering, and this is why (as I had them) we built the cinema around them (in the last house it was in the living room with a pull down screen). Scored the GR60s on ebay, and they are lovely but never used them for music.
The Viennas are another thing altogether. Mine are ex-demo and a few years old now, but the most amazing things. I still find myself thinking there's an engine running outside. The bass extension is simply barking low. But they are still £2.5k on ebay....

Thanks
I have always lusted after Viennas, but I wouldn't want such low bass extension. I'm in a upstairs bedroom and in a terraced house. I think what with the new 60kg sub downstairs, I should be a little more considerate of my neighbours!
Given how old the rest of the HiFi kit is (and I've no intention of upgrading, except for the amp), I'm quite keen to keep it retro (if late 90's/early 00's is retro) but...and very importantly... beautiful.
I loved the B&W 601 S2 with the yellow Kevlar cones.
I loved the Viennas with their stunning (i presume real) wood cabinets.
I might keep the hunt for some old stunning KEFs, Monitor Audios or other... I am considering small towers simply because they seem to be cheaper than bookshelfs second hand. Though bookshelfs would make more sense if I was to ever "re-purpose" them as an upgrade to the cinema.
I think I just had a moment.I also have a pair of Linn Kabers, which I pair with a period REL (Storm) Sub, but to be fair, even on their own they do sound rather nice. Can usually be found pretty inexpensively on eBay.

Unlikely in honesty. Wood is a bit on the resonant side. Probably veneered MDFI loved the Viennas with their stunning (i presume real) wood cabinets.
Dune ? Not so sure on that one
Visuals were good but was a box office flop.
P0rn collection must be in the first left shelf as you didnt want us to see it.
Keep thinking about an LP12 but mate just bought a Rega Planer 6 and it is very good and a bit more stylish to pass the "does it look nice" that Mrs Z has for anything that goes in the lounge (me excluded of course) but I know that purchase will be the first cost as I will then start buying all the vinyl I sold years ago
