The R5...knew a guy had one........spent a lot of money on it, off the road more than on it at times....but he loved it.

The owner of the Yellow one was telling me his has been pretty reliable, had it 5 years, was on 125k miles when i went in it, never guessed it though. The seats are amazingly comfortable too.

This guy had cream velour bucket seats , with a lilac pinstripe very stylish for the day , the whole interiors were quite stylish , maybe one of the last of the french makes that made sense , cant say there's a french car that has done anything for me in 20 years

Mass market makers have difficulty in making a semi-supercar...bar Ford in recent times, plus the Veyron........French cars are purely for the populist masses now....shame.

With regard to the 5 Turbo 1 & 2 I had a couple in the late eighties first was a T1 that some one decided would look better in their hands than mine & the second was a real rare beast one of only 20 road goingl world wide a Maxi 5 Turbo compleate with huge spot light pod on the front cost me an arm and a leg but worth every penny. After three years and two top end rebuilds I finally gave in to the reliability of the RS cosworth & then an RS500.

I wish I had kept the Maxi but it was two expensive and fragile for an every day car.Bobth head jobs happend due to overheating in traffic once to often.

I had similar problems with a Renault 5 GT Turbo, blew the turbo twice in about a year, not much use on the motorway but great on the country roads.

Nick even by today's standards the Maxi had warp speed, just so fast up to 145mph almost to quick for you to change gear. I loved it.

Esprit was the dream back then, now I have one :)

However, my fave 80s car is still the Scirocco, have had 3 and all were fantastic. So light, so agile, so quick for what it was, and used to sleep in it quite often...

I was in my autoprime in the 80's , for me it has to be one of these

This was my one and only brand new car ever B44 TAS , great bit of supercharged kit for its time , in 1983 had a top speed of 137mph which in those days was fast , not a lot else touched it , trying to track it down now , apparently a member of the Lancia owners club has it , im waiting to hear if its purchaseable, handled like a dream on wheels

Had a few Porkers in the eighties ,a Targa first and then the 3.3 turbo complete with 80's whale tail , great fun but disappointing handling compared to the Lancia's i was used to

I had a Storm, great car, don't think I slept much in those days, particularly not in a car :)
