Thanks @Hawk13 for sharing, enjoyed the process of elimination. We have a similar discussion every time Mrs G wants to change her car. Can’t see past a Macan S though. For a midsize SUV, I personally believe they’re head and shoulders above the rest. Mainly for driving dynamics, handling and build quality. Not driven a Volvo XC60, but badge snobbery would rule it out I think. Some may say that’s wrong (on a Maserati forum ;) ) but I believe there’s a very close correlation between badge snobbery and retained value/depreciation. I would love suggestions from people who have experience of driving any others if there’s anything out there better than a Macan S sub £50k.

Can't disagree with that .... Macan S is a great car and certainly has the right badge (and consequently residuals). But if you can get past the badge, Volvo make some great cars and the buiodl quality is right up there.

That’s what mines got inside along with alcantara!
Just off to shoot myself.

ha ha - that's the one. And most definitely not for me :)

the smaller xc60 does look rather nice and the gobsmacked there is a turbo charged and supercharged lump available, for some reason the smaller compact SUV's from all manufacturers seem far prettier to me than the bigger range, when the wife went for the e pace she didn't even think about looking at a volvo xc60 and completely overlooked the marque which is a shame

Volvo was the last manufacturer we looked at despite being our closest main dealer. In fact we went to Peugeot, Skoda and Subaru before Volvo.

And yes, I thought I had misheard when he told me the T8 has a 313 bhp turbo charged and supercharged engine AND a 100bhp leccy motor. It is very very fast up to 100 (some mags quoting 5.2 seconds to 62) and very refined.

that's impressive for a compact SUV, for some reason when thinking of turbo/supercharging all in one reminds me of Lancia S4, wonder if there are there any other manufacturers doing a similar thing, think the wife might have missed a trick there in not considering the volvo

Didn’t VW do a super efficient Polo about 15 years ago?

just had to google that, polo g40 came up and that was just supercharged, no turbo, was wondering if any other manufacturer was doing a similar thing in current models with both units on one lump

That was the performance one. This was about fuel efficiency, hold on. I’ll have a google

Back in the 80's in Japan they put a turbocharger and a supercharger onto a 1.0 litre Nissan Micra to produce a whopping 110bhp. My dad who has zero interest in cars had a standard 1.0 litre, and now drives a similarly underpowered 11 year old Skoda estate I didn't get my love of cars from him that's for sure!!
