Ok boys and girls...to state the obvious, this is an Italian car Forum, right... and in particular Maserati...

but we often have threads that talk about other cars, Audi, BMW, Mercedes...etc, and not just German marques,
these are sometimes called boring, characterless, without soul and passion etc...so my question,

What is soul, Passion, Character...the stuff that we describe our own cars as having?

Soul for me is in the engine sound, it is something that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, i have been in a fair few performance cars and i can tell you, no Porsche (including 911 Turbo) has raised the hairs on my neck. The cars that have done it are mainly the Italian variety, BMW's straight 6 in the M3 CSL and the Honda NSX, no V6 has ever sounded so good. Another factor is you can sense a car that has Soul, by that i mean you cant really describe what it is and why, it just flicks that switch in your mind.

Passion A car which has a lot of craftsmanship, by that i mean you can sense the hard work which has gone into making the car such as the hand stitched interior etc..

Character A car which has a unique way on how it behaves, i.e, breaks down, feels different to any other car/ has a different personality to all cars.

I think it is hard to describe what those 3 magic words mean as really, it is down to personal opinion.

That's exactly right...it will mean different things to different people.
When we sit in our maserati or alfa, we feel something special...
but I tell you what, I have been behind the wheel of LOTS of other cars that make ME feel equally special...

( interesting that you don't include Ferrari or Lambo in having all 3 :D )

Not all Ferrari's have Passion, Soul etc..... 456 is one of them, quite boring IMO especially with the full Auto 'box.

I do feel that Alfa Aand Maserati have all 3 Enzo....but Ferrari doesn't ahve the same passion...Don't ask me why but the history of Alfa seems to add tp the appeal.....Ferrai is too obvious.....Lambo I love but doesn't have the history...

Alfa Romeo are one of the most important car makers ever, without them there would be no Maserati or Ferrari as the Maserati brothers and Enzo Ferrari both started off at Alfa Romeo.

Guys, there is no right or wrong answer...I love driving, always have done, whether it is a Porsche, a Lotus, a Jag, a Ford, whatever...
I have never ever seen a car as simply a means to get from one place to another,
I am also fortunate enough to own a Ferrari and a Maserati...to me, both have all three in abundance :D

Not so much that Adam...but getting drawn into areas they truly don't want to....either to make a buck or expand the range......pity sometimes!

Acid test for me was giving my sales team the usual choice of hatchback turbo diesels when we replaced our fleet cars recently. Now they all happen to be female, (by coincidence not design) and could not seem to make a decision so I suggested they spoke to their other halves and see what they thought. We now have a lovely set of black Alfa Romeo Giullettas and they look fantastic. Now I know that by all separate measurements they can be beaten point for point by one stat or another against any of the Germans but there's just something that makes me smile every morning when I walk through the company car park, just puts me in a good mood...

Well my lot switch on the DNA button and get around 55! I know it sounds misogynistic but they all look great in their cars and I bet they carry on with Alfas when we change them next time....
