Standard Infotainment Features

Hey everyone, first time poster and soon-to-be owner of a white 2012 QP Sport GTS. Car is currently awaiting export from Japan. I am sure I will have a number of questions when it arrives but at the moment, the most pertinent question I have (having not seen the car yet in person) is regarding the original Infotainment and its features.

Currently the car has some sort of aftermarket screen fitted. It looks from the photos that it has done away with the original screen, the buttons either side of the screen (inc the sport and traction control buttons!) and the entire keypad directly below the screen that has volume controls etc. I've seen a few threads and videos regarding a carplay system from sports italia which I would like although I have no idea if its possible to install without having the OE unit first! I'm hoping the original unit is in the car but even then theres no guarantee it won't be stolen en route (even if it makes it here, it may be in the wrong language). Also not sure if its worth mentioning but I think it has a standard bose system. My question is what features does the original infotainment actually have and is it worth me trying to get my hands on one?

Yes you will need the oe unit to fit the SI unit and only then as long as it is not the Bose head unit. Hopefully the aftermarket is OK and you can work out how to put it into English. Loved my QP 4.7S great all round car.

The 2012 QP S-GTS is a great car, so good choice. And I love a sight-unseen Maserati purchase - a game only for the brave (or foolhardy!).
Hope it all goes well for you.

@JitFD is this the one? I had my eyes turned to it a couple of weeks back. If so, I’d think you’d be best keeping it as it is, unless the original media unit is still wired in in the boot then it can be reverted, so long as not Bose Head Unit (they nearly all have Bose speakers so that won’t tell you).

No it wasnt that one. I did bid on that about 6 weeks ago though. Its had some paint work in the last few weeks. It was a white one with red/black interior. Ill upload some pics. Atleast the stereo in the car you pictured has kept some of the buttons on the sides. You will see what I mean from the images I put up about mine.

EDIT - if you're interested, that white one you posted with the beige/black interior has been painted down both sides. I have the pre paint auction sheet that showed all the scratches and dents. I think the seller wants considerably more than what my one ended up going for. If you are looking in Japan, there is a dealer I think that has a fairly nice looking white car with 63000KM which is pretty reasonably priced from memory (compared to what I have seen in the UK anyway). And the main advantage with buying from there is that they dont salt the roads so corrosion generally isnt an issue.

So I got a few pre shipping photos of the car and I am still no closer to solving the mystery of where the buttons around the stereo have gone! I believe the original stereo was a Bose unit. This new unit is some sort of pioneer carrozeria. I highly doubt it has the functionality built in for the buttons that belong in that fascia so I guess I wont find this out until the end of February when the car arrives.

On another note, is it possible to get new panels for the interior. The two that are irking me the most are the console surrounding the automatic shifter. And the switch panel behind the steering wheel next to the light controls (you can see the switches have been pushed back). if so is there like a link to an online EPC?

They drive on the left in Japan, but saying that they do like to import cars with the steering wheel on the same side as the country of manufacture.
There was a fashion for having high end cars in LHD, even Jags and Rolls. I think it’s got tainted by Yakuza associations now though.

From what I can tell you could get Japanese market cars in RHD and LHD from the maserati dealerships there. Mine is a RHD supplied for the Japanese market. And collecting cars currently have a black sport GTS in LHD that is also supplied for the Japanese market (as I understand it the KK in the VIN signifies Japan as the country it was destined for).

Yes I know. It's a status thing. But obviously the QP was not deemed special enough by the original owner!

When you solve the button mystery, let us know as the install is very clean. Would be great if they somehow got it to work with the new head unit.

Indeed. I was in Japan a few years back and never understood this until I saw it. Strange.

You're driving a cheap car nicked from the UK?

Eb
No one sane enough would drive a nicked RHD car in BG - it sticks out like a sore thumb... EU insurance companies are also pretty hot on dodgy cars these days, so stolen/cloned EU cars in circulation have become rare too. Sadly, when they are gone, the cars are either exported to the Levant or Russia/CIS, normally to be sold on and driven or parted out...

Driving a RHD car in BG - unless it's a new high end car - usually means one of two things - you are either a builder from London on holiday back home :D, or you couldn't quite afford the equivalent LHD car... My Maserati in BG would retail for about £70k vs. the £37.5k that would cost from a dealer in the UK...
