I remember the sensation of touching the window buttons on the first drive I had with my 4200. It was not a pleasant sensation.
5 years later they have not gotten any better and sadly other buttons and trim have joined the party. My finger prints are now recorded on most buttons!
I read the forums, watched the YouTube videos and still took the paint off with my first try. I popped into a local Ferrari specialist and was advised that no one can help once you see white plastic.
This led me to scour the web and find a company in Europe that can strip, repaint and laser etch each button to as new condition. I'm hoping for a high standard as its 1500 Euros.
Great service from them so far with parts being collected from my front door and returned by DHL.
Photo attached of what will be redone.
I did have some personal success with the headlight aim switch and found that cleaning with a baby wipe, then paper towel dried allowed me to rub my thumb/thumbprint over the surface which rolled of the sticky layer nicely.
I shall use this process for the air vents as they are made out of black plastic whilst everything else is being sent off.
Does any one have experience of how the plastic lasts without the sticky coating? I read that some people sprayed them with lacquer after removing this layer?
Another question is how much better does the car feel after getting switches sorted and non sticky? It's the only real sign of age in the whole interior and should be like new when all put back together.
