Stolen (by me!) - but now taxed - New 4200 Owner + New + New

Hi all,
Just to follow up from this thread (https://www.sportsmaserati.com/inde...argain-as-i-need-the-garage-for-new-gc.36831/) - I have indeed bought Guy (Kiwibrit's) 4200! Wanted to wait until officially in my name and taxed, but all is now done! Had a great drive up from Poole to Godalming on Monday evening, getting used to the car. Great fun, and whilst I drove very conservatively, it does have some power for sure - more so than my 08 Granturismo 4.2 I had for a short period!
It was a VERY opportune purchase (thanks again Guy!) - and thanks to the forum for just making oneself able to transfer quite large amounts of money to people having never met them. I had had people pay me for a car in full, before wanting to pick it up a couple of weeks later, but that was after meeting at my house - so this forum has a great respect to it - thank you. A quick phone call to my wife on the Thursday arvo when I was in the bathroom at work, and a 5 minute chat to Guy at a very loud pub, and we had agreed the deal. Too quick to get nervous I think :)
The car passed it's MOT this morning which was great, so I can now actually drive it properly. It will get a good clean and wax this weekend - although it does tear up the gravel driveway with the Cambiocorsa gearbox nicely!!
Fingers crossed it doesn't spring up too many issues - the MOT place I know well locally said perhaps get an outdoor bubble cover - are these recommended? Our family car gets the car port space unfortunately! Whilst the 4200 has been rust proofed I believe, I want to keep it nice for as long as possible.
The only item to address are the lights which are very fogged/scratched from Guy's and my attempts to polish - may get the pros involved.
A weird quirk I found if you turn the ignition key too far when driving the electrics don't work - wipers/indicators - had to stop first time and work out why, but all fine once you turn it back a few degrees.

Anyway, a final thank you to all, Conaro, Guy, other crazy people who egg each other on, thank you, and from my kids too, never thought I'd have one again - which is fine, priorities change, but this has enabled me to have a V8, and be cool to my 6 year old for a couple more years I hope.
May make it to an event too one of these days - I have a inter-livery clay shoot in May which I think I should turn up in this car for with the (borrowed) hunting jackets etc - all the gear, no idea.
Laurence

Fantastic story and a great outcome, especially with a clean MOT now too. Well done on being brave and an excellent time of year to buy a new car - a couple of months of tinkering and the summer will be here, happy days!

Looks great OP and well done - I only saw Kiwibrit's £5k post shortly after you had already responded, otherwise I would have jumped at the chance and used it as my daily driver! Well done on being so quick off the mark and great news on the MOT

Yes my constant lurking paid off! I've learnt sometimes to just be quick! I missed a bmw I was trying to buy as two of us were putting a deposit on a car and he beat me by a matter of minutes 6 months ago. You live and learn hope you find a good daily if looking?

I wasn't looking but it would have been too tempting! I have an XF I use daily but this would have been a lot more fun! Anyway, you prompted me to get my GT out of winter storage over the BH weekend, so thank you for that.

I know the feeling - I had absolutely no intention of buying a car, and then suddenly this appeared!

Congratualtions on the purchase. I've done similar of buying a forum car and have gone through the same process myself of the phone chat, pitching up to see it, agreeing the sale, wiring money through then picking it up the following weekend. Tell that to a 'normal' person and they think we're mad. 'you sent £nn,nnn to a bloke you just met?'

One point, the 4200 has probably the same power to weigh ratio at the 4.7 GT so will probably feel 'livelier' than the 4.2 GT. Enjoy!

When I sold my Elise, a French bloke transfered me £13k sight unseen and picked it up 2 weeks later all the way from France with a car trailer.

When I bought my MCV, it was over the 'phone. The (private) seller and I had a long chat, and I asked him to be completely honest with me. He was, and after we agreed on the price, I transferred the funds.

My son Dave and I hooked his trailer onto my 'ute', and after 4 days, and 4,000km, my MCV was home. Here it is leaving the previous owner's house. He's there behind the car - crying, I think...:)

So glad it all worked out for us both. I'm not one for dealing with people asking a thousand irrelevant questions these days and hence the take it or leave it deal. Guess its my age and stage...

Delighted it passed the MOT 1st time-more than it did for me, due to the stupid examiner who couldn't even drive it into the bay! Idiot.

Enjoy the ride and put the miles on it-its got tons more before it needs anything major again.

Oh and thanks for being a good sport in the buying game!

Congratulations on the purchase, I had the same wheels on my 3200. Good time to buy with summer coming & hopefully many dry days ahead.

Laurence, congratulations on the purchase. I’m unsure where you’re located but if you want help sorting the buttons and the headlights, leather etc my detailer is a genius and would do a lot of the jobs for you as a one stop shop.

Yes I thought they look like 3200 wheels. Would prefer something a bit more aggressive, but then with modifications where do you stop! Think I will leave as is and spend the time on fuel and enjoyment, than trying to make tiny changes!!
