My GS is the first paddle shift I've driven and love it. As I've nothing to compare it with. When I took my friend out for a drive. He has m5. He said it was just a smooth change as his.
Steve, the GS box is fine...I love driving them....But try a modern box and you will see what we mean.
I can truly say I'm a right foot peddle lifterM5 has the SMG-2 box which is pretty good once you get used to it, some hate it though and say it is slow and very lurchy but that's more likely them only having driven it for a short period of time and not lifting between the changes and at the sweet spot in the rev range. The lift makes all the difference to smoother changes and logically like a manual car it is the correct way of driving an automated clutch car. People jump in using the paddles and assume that they can keep their foot planted as if it were an automatic.
