Strange intermittent fault – ideas?

Hi all, thought I would post my first request for advice!
Driving back down the M1 last night in arctic conditions, my 4200 developed its first unique Italian electrical fault... It was an intermittent fault which included a split second loss of power, which was worrying on the motorway!
Symptoms:
Muffled popping sound from rear of car – sounded like coming from within boot area, almost like a bulb had exploded/popped – first of all I though the boot release had activated – similar sound to that...
This was accompanied by the red “bulb gone†warning light on the dash coming on for a second or two then going out, at the same time the car lost power for a split second and the information centre went off and came straight back on – so obviously some sort of electrical issue due to last night's wet and cold weather conditions. All other electrics/instrumentation stayed on fine.
The above sequence of “events†happened in exactly the same way 5 times within 1.5 hours of driving. Car absolutely fine after each “experienceâ€!
Any clues where to start? Perhaps check all bulbs, fuses, relays etc – or “bulb gone†light points to something else other than just bulbs? Anyone experienced the same or similar symptoms?
Interested to hear your thoughts
Thanks
James

Anything to do with the master isolator switch under the battery cover in the boot ? You seemed to lose all electrical power............?

...its the loosing power thing would worry me.....cant' be a fuse cos once blown its gone.........dodgy relay?

Had a bulb blown.....?.....check which relay covers the info centre and does it cover anything else?

No gearbox light coming on? Each event happened at exact intervals?

Sounds like a loose battery cable. Check the easy stuff first, but these things just seem to disappear after a while, maybe just the weather.

The pop sounds like a misfire from the exhaust but I could be wrong.

Do a battery reset, if you search on here its listed frequently.
