Summer of bad luck with the QP

Hi Everyone,

Greetings from Switzerland. For those of you who've had a trouble free summer with your Masers, congratulations! Unfortunately, I've had a fair run of bad luck with the car over the summer and since I drove the car back to the UK for a service at Shiltech in May. Here's the list of issues:

1) front n/s wheel bearing replaced (under an indep warranty)
2) front driver window anti-trap sensor
3) Coolant leak from heater system - heater valves replaced

Now the car is back at the dealer with another coolant leak - this time from the radiator. I hope this spate of bad luck passes - in the past year I've had the variators go and a new alternator in addition to services and tyres. I consider myself a good advocate of the brand, I had had the PPI and understood the costs of ownership and, yes, I know that this could happen with any brand where the car is 7 years old. However, it is testing my patience and I hope and pray that this is it for a while. Unfortunately its main dealer all the way here due to the lack of indy's.

Hopefully a trouble free trip to the Italian F1 GP in Monza in early Sept will restore my relationship with the car.

Cheers

Tim

That is a lot of bad luck.

I've no idea how much you are paying. But it sounds like it's worth having the car looked over in detail and having some preventative maintenance done.

No indy's in Italy you could take it to?

Might be worth taking it over the border to an Indy if you are paying high prices there. They do cost money to maintain, but sounds like you have had some extra's, which does happen tto us all now and then..??

Balance the smiles with the frustration and the smiles will always win out.

And I've owned a 3200 AND watched it being destroyed by a looney in an EVO smash into it at very high speed while I was waiting for the AA (happens with 3200's - AA waiting - not watching them being destroyed) just saying!

Where did that happen Malcolm - sounds a scary experience and lucky that you were not in or near the car.

Its a fair point but i've heard that the Italians tend to charge less per hour but the work take more hours. Well la dolce vita and all that stirring the sauce. These Swiss lads know their stuff and the parts and work are covered for a period of time.

Will in love all over again tomorrow but i cant keep spending 10k per year on maintenance.

A46 Coventry towards Stratford on Avon. Was VERY scary ... But proof that staying out of the car is the safe option.

From where I am sitting this does not sound that bad to be honest. Its a Maserati and its a car, stuff wears out and some of the parts are not as tough as they could be, nothing runs forever with out problems. I have had my 3200 on the road 2 months out of the last 9, and had both turbos, all the turbo hoses, 3 suspension arms, diff seals, gear selector position switch and all the brake hoses, main cooling radiator replaced. Probably looking at some work on the AC shortly. sub frame off and back on in this process, so it could be worse sir!!!

When you decide to buy a Supercar, you have to do so in the opinion that you are going to have to spend money to maintain it. If you are lucky, you won't get many massive bills, but a few sizeable ones along the way are normal.

A wheel bearing, coolant leak & electric window glitch, doesnt seem bad to me?

A German Flagship I'm sure would be no better, indeed sometimes alot worse

Trust me it was not to my liking much either, especially since in total it was off the road for 7 months, so i was spending seemingly endless money and not gettign to drive it and enjoy it along the way. I am hoping i have bought a short period of relief, and some epic driving.
