Supercars depreciation

DB9 values are quite strange. The early cars are seemingly very cheap but the final facelifts with the Virage upgrades look very expensive - £60k for a 2012 is a lot of money IMHO.
Agreed that doesn't make sense for what is a similar looking car, albeit the later ones have mild body mods and about 50HP more. Same with the original NP Vanquish. An early decent 2001/2 car with 460hp and say 20k miles can be purchased for about £70k but the run out Ultimate where just 50 were made but looks the same but with a slightly revised interior say 10k miles and 520HP is c£250k for something very similar. They made 94 SDP's and they sit between the 2 price-wise.

As most of above there are too many over expensive supercars these days and they are just not different enough. I couldn't get any where near my 4200 potential so why would I need another 100BHP or more. After driving Andys old 325i for sometime now I realise that it is good fun at sensible speeds, I feel like I should replace it but find myself looking at older stuff rather than newer. The Porsche 944 itch keeps coming back and I still think they were built well enough to use as a daily if you buy a good one to start with.

Used a 944 as a daily for a year many moons ago, lots of fun and no issues but maybe I was lucky.

If you want to know anything about 944s, let me know, I was the PCGB expert for many years.
My first proper sportscar that I bought at 24.

If you exclude the MG Midget I had at school, it was my first proper sports car too, an'86 in GP White. I too was 24 and flew to Darlington to from LHR on a prop plane to pick it up from its first owner. I remember being disappointed at first as it didn't have the teledial wheels that signified the facelift model only to discover later when I brought it home that it had been specified with Fuchs forged alloys, which being the '80s had to have the centres changed to white! I did 30k miles in it in a year and lost £1500. I loved the handling but until you were over the ton it was no quicker than the Gtis of the day. I suspect they feel quite sluggish today. A few years later I had a silver rose turbo SE and that was quick.

We talk about supercars, but many of us come back to older and often more engaging cars.
I do think it's so sad that people don't use their cars though. I choose not to have a 'beater', so every day is a day to drive a nice car... if only we could drive much.

I'm suddenly looking at SL55amg F1 spec and thinking that they look good value and surely will not devalue anymore, the only thing is keep thinking they are an old mans cruising car due to that auto box.

A very good friend has one. It sounds great, very much a muscle car, but it's not a car that I would take for a spirited drive.
Not to say I don't think it's a great car, or wouldn't like one...

Agree to an extent. I typically do 30-40k pa (only about 5k of it is for business and I work at home but I do love driving!) I quickly fell out of love with my 993 when I commuted 110 miles a day in it for 3 months. I loved it again when it came out of the garage for a Le Mans trip or weekend away. Depreciation has made so many good cars cheap that the definition of a 'beater or smoker' needn't be rubbish. I'll search for a photo of my 944s
