Suspension and lights question

Hi guys,

Couple of questions for you, still finding my way with the GT (which I adore, just such a fun car)

1) My car was advertised as skyhook, but I can see that it's got what appear to be adjustable coil-over units fitted (marked Bilstein). Not what I suspected the skyhook units to look like and I'm guessing it's been replaced, but would like to confirm what the factory units look like. (I'm not in the least bit annoyed, it rides superbly and to be totally honest I'd like to lower it 10-20mm anyway, so I'm pleased I can do that)

2) Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the auto-lights? I've noticed that I'm the last car on the road without lights as dusk falls before they pop on and to be honest I'd like them on sooner anyway.

Thanks!

Does the ride change from stiff to soft when you go in and out of Sports mode, that would tell you if you have Skyhook.

Take the covers off the side of the engine bay, if you have wires that go to the top of the struts then it’s skyhook. As for the auto lights, you have to live with it or turn them on by hand.

Some skyhook cars have adjustable spring platforms, some don’t.

Non skyhook look like this.

Light sensitivity can be adjusted by the big switch on the right hand side of the dash or lhs if a left hooker. Sorry no idea, but I think it is no you cannot.

Beat me to it.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look under the covers.

Any reason why some have adjustable spring platforms and some don't?

Not sure which car you have but the Granturismo MC shift came as standard without skyhook whereas the S Auto came with it. However, there is no way to tell from inside the car unless you drive it on a bumpy road and toggle the sport button back and forth. Best option is to look at the strut towers as you say. I'm not sure the springs are meant to be adjusted.

It’s my understanding that all cars not fitted with the sport suspension came with skyhook, I’ve only seen one MC Shift without it and it was so equiped.

Thanks - any reason why they shouldn't be adjusted if fitted?

Well. The spring will be a progressive one, so if you compress the spring to lower the ride height the preload increases which will make the ride a bit lumpier. Particularly if you go very low. Then there is the small matter of them probably being completely seized.

I'm going to have to do some investigation, have a check for wires in the strut tops. They certainly look pretty shiny still, so I wonder if they've been replaced at some point.

Thanks all!
