It looks like it needs a serious bodywork and chassi check, the rust if it has really got hold could be a car killer waiting to finish it's job. It would need a good check and zinc coating of all surfaces to try and keep it in good nick..!!

Thanks for the info, dickyb. Think I'll give this a swerve. I'm not interested in entering into a lifelong battle with a rusty Italian sports car and SimonM is already going to view the car at some point.

I really must put a block on ebay!

I nearly bought this very car around 3/4 years ago but DickyB sent me pics of the sills so do not bother........Shame as red really suits the car...

I learnt many years ago when restoring Vespas and Lambrettas that the rust you can see is the tip of the iceberg, to be sure its all gone you have to strip back to bare metal, remove all the rust, use a rust treatment and then begin rebuilding. Simply patching over rotten holes as appears to have been done to this car is not good enough.

It was the sills Frank........They had been replaced as they were in one **** of a state........I was sent pictures by another member who had been to see it...The owner was up front and sent the pictures before it was done but the concern was what was hinding where you could see....Ghibli experts said once gone you never get rid....

Dealer clearly has no idea what he has. As a 96 year car it's hardly "one of the last", as they were made until 99. And the "Ferrari 6 speed gearbox" is the Getrag job fitted to cars such as the BMW M3.

But all of that's irrelevant if rust has got hold somewhere structural. Certainly the bulkhead would need checking.

Does look good in red though. Would be a tempter at about £5k. But a rusty 100,000 miler is not worth £9k!!!!

Agree, red looks bloody lovely on a Ghibli....Same gearbox as my old E39 M5......
