Biggest headache of my life! My car has been cutting off after low idle and while in neutral. Also, sometimes it will not start whether it is hot or cold. It throws no codes. They have had me replace the F1 relay, the heater core, now they say it may be the clutch $5100 plus tax. Help? This is the actual dealership and they can't guarantee this is the problem... This problem has been going on 5 months

That suggests to me thats its the MAF sensor , sounds odd that they said its to do with the clutch ,

MAF sensor? Pardon me ;) What is that? The clutch response surprised me because it has shown no signs. I doubt they checked the fluid for metal.

Mass air flow meter , its a sensor controled by the ecu that determines and controls the air petrol mix , in the uk i think there about £125.00 sterling and an hour max to replace .i'll check and report back in a few minutes

They can be cleaned if you want to be bothered it is a specialized MAF cleaner; not done it but I believe it is one of those take it out and use the whole can jobs; by the time you have sodded about I'd think it would be easier to replace...

I'll have them check that today... WOuldn't the clutch have metal in the fluid or show some sign? I also thought the clutch replacement was cheaper now than before?

I struggle to comprehend why the heater core should have anything to do with the engine cutting out!?
Sounds like you need a different dealer!

No , certainly not , and probably at some independant garages /workshops , thought the states would be pretty much the same as Main dealer for a clutch and release bearing replacent here in the UK is $2600

You Wouldn't see metal in the fluid as it is a closed system which is only used to operate the clutch, which is dry. The two shouldn't come into contact. It always was, and always will be, expensive to change a clutch on one of these things. IMO it is either a software issue or a sensor on the way out.

Surprisingly I did not know abput that dealer (leitheuro)! I will definitely contact them. And the clutch I expected to be around 25-3k but not over 5k. I think its software or a sensor but they refuse to make a firm yes or no diagnosis anywhere. Are you familiar with Leith? I have been taking it to Foreign Cars Italia. The CS is great I just can't get answers from the mechanics Straight answers

Hi

I agree with other posters here that the workshop you're using seems to be just throwing your money at the problem with no real sense of direction, and there do seem to have been some rather puzzling suggestions about 'faulty' components. I would have been surprised if that was the case for an official Maserati dealer even though they probably have bad days now and again. I just found the Raleigh dealer on Google; it has to be worth a call or visit if only for a second opinion and some qualified guidance.

Are you familiar with Maserati Life?

http://www.maseratilife.com/forums/

That forum is located on your side of the pond so it might provide recommendations of reliable workshops and dealers in your area.

Good luck.

Definitely change your dealer, does not sound as though they know anything about the cars and you would probably finish up changing just about everything, just in case and at your cost.

Raleigh NC - I used to work in Cary. Where do you fit your gun-box in a Maserati? Pretty much every truck had one on the flatbed behind the cab.

I posted a reply on PH re getting Maserati US involved?
