In the interests of European collaboration and moving some money from Europe to the UK I've spent this morning agreeing the outline terms of a new contract with a German-based company which does a lot of business in Latin America. To further help grease the rails of the global economy I have booked my British-made car (although the manufacturer will now benefit from increased investment from another German company) in for a service and infotainment upgrade, including components, licensed from a US-registered company and inevitably others made in China. I have also paid the deposit on a new set of front gates which will be made in the UK, partly from the wood of an African tree believed by some tribes to have supernatural properties.
For my part, it makes me happy to be part of a global community, however tenuous some of those links might be. I especially love the cultural differences between all these weird and wonderful tribes.
