The New Dark Italian Lady in My Life...

So she finally arrvied at 2pm and my initial impression was wow - Stunning Car. Sounds cheesey but it looked so much better on my drive rather than sitting unloved in the show room! Exterior and Interior in great condition and still had that new'ish smell inside - bonus ;-) Drive wise, fabulous, very smooth and easy to drive. Loved it immedietly.

Now - Here is a few Q's....Need some guidance:

1> How do I get the Electronic Rev Counter to display on the central driver screen (MMR)? I found the on/off toggle after pressing the Mode button on far right by lights but even set as on/off if just diverts back to audio settings....Any suggestions?

2> Power Folding Mirrors - How do I fold them down - Looked like I press down on the mirror adjustment device but again nothing happening...Any Suggestions?

3> As a result of 2 - This made fitting by new love affiar in the garage a bit of a squeeze!

4> MC Shift Flaps - Figured out if I double pull the flap it either drops up/down 2 gears - fun....How is best to drive it? Feather the throttle or keep foot down when you change?

5> Side Skirts - Both seem to have a "Italian style fit" on the driver and near side (i.e. not quite flush)...Slightly not upto German Porsche standard but hoping nothing to worry about - Is this usual?

6> EPB - How the **** does this work? Whenever I stopped it never applies the parking brake - How should this work?

Any other driving tips/hints welcomed...

Thanks Darren

Sure you will repalce her with something equally as stunning soon

.....PS - Any comments on the points I raised would be appreciated as I try to get to grips with her!

From memory, you are doing the right thing, maybe your not pressing the OK button, simply selecting it

2> Power Folding Mirrors - How do I fold them down - Looked like I press down on the mirror adjustment device but again nothing happening...Any Suggestions?
Mine were not power folding, are you sure yours are, its an extra? They should drop when you engage reverse, the mirror that is, not the whole unit

3> As a result of 2 - This made fitting by new love affiar in the garage a bit of a squeeze!
The cars are huge. What I did was to screw a wooden batten to the floor so the front wheels hit it and you know your in as far as you can. I pull my drivers mirror in through the window, but again, not sure you actually have power mirrors. Try and pull them in, if they do, you dont have power mirrors.

4> MC Shift Flaps - Figured out if I double pull the flap it either drops up/down 2 gears - fun....How is best to drive it? Feather the throttle or keep foot down when you change?
The book says not to lift, but with time, you will give it the smallest of pauses. I always find the best way to drive them is, Radio off, windows down, Auto off, Sport on, balls out and foot to the floor...its the only way!

5> Side Skirts - Both seem to have a "Italian style fit" on the driver and near side (i.e. not quite flush)...Slightly not upto German Porsche standard but hoping nothing to worry about - Is this usual?
Mine fitted fine. It sounds like you have had a knock or they have been of for painting.

6> EPB - How the **** does this work? Whenever I stopped it never applies the parking brake - How should this work?
Its a law unto itself. When you stop it wont engage unless you pull up that silly little flappy thing. It has a hill start so dont confuse this with the handbrake. The handbrake should only come on when you turn the car off. Even if you are not in gear as you switch off, it will still engage first gear and apply the handbrake. Thus the handbrake will be on when you restart. You dont need to do anything to release it, just drive off.

Thanks Matt,

1> Hmmm yes nenver found an OK button - Where is it?

2/3> Yes the mirror does drop when I reverse so i can see the kirbs/reverse a bit easier etc - Therefore Assuming I have the power fold but cannot figure out to make the whole unit retract rather than pull it in manually....

4> Agree - Is it OK to sit in first gear as well when it drops down at a junction or should i go into N?

5> Hmmmm will have a closer look at this...

6> Thanks - I think I was confusing with hill start...What the procedure to do the hill start?

Sorry for all the questions - appreciate your time/reply....Thanks darren

Not sure, ill check tonight for you when I get in as the car is tucked up at home as I am not using the car as its been sold

I dont think you have power folding mirrors

4> Agree - Is it OK to sit in first gear as well when it drops down at a junction or should i go into N?
An old debate, most of us as a matter of habit, flip into neutral when stopping. It saves the clutch. The most important thing for clutch wear is not to drive it in Auto, use the manual paddles.

5> Hmmmm will have a closer look at this...
It probably just needs a tweak

6> Thanks - I think I was confusing with hill start...What the procedure to do the hill start?
Try it, you will see. If you are in 1st and have your foot on the brake, as you release, the car holds on the brake then releases. Basically, on a hill, in first, take your foot off the brake, count , one, two then hit the gas. If you don't the car will start to roll backwards (or forwards)

Cheers all.

Just dropped the ex-owner a quick email as found his details on the last service record - He called me straight back and put my mind at ease....All you Maserati owners seem such nice guys - Its a real pleasure...Anyway, I simply needed to turn the mirror adjustment dial all the way to the bottom - Easy when you know how! He also verified milage and past history etc....Feel at ease now.

Itching to get back in the car but the wife has gone out so I am stuck at home with the Kiddies in bed......TBH, I never have been so exicted to be going to work tomorrow morning!!! lol - although the red petrol light has now appeared and my first visit to the pumps beckons......Ouch!!! Assuming 95 Unleaded will be fine.....Better be!!!

Hi Darren

I thought now Matts sold his that mine would be the only black MC here, great to see another one join. Where abouts in the UK are you based?

Im an awful long way from the car - away on business, but the folding mirrors is easy. On mine the mirror switch moves left for left mirror and right for right mirror, if you keep turning it right it folds the mirrors inwards. The mirror switch is right where my knee is and on the track its always moves around - annoyingly.

I slightly lift if normally driving, on full chat the pedal rarely comes off the floor. In MC shift mode i dont lift at all.

On the side skirts, if you mean at the rear where they are bigger, mine do occasionally pop out by a tiny amount, but i just push them back in - its Italian nuff said.. if they didnt have a personality what would we all gas about.

cheers
Frank

your all getting me very jealous.....

lovely cars...one day, one day.......

At least you guys don't have to worry about us nicking these and bringing them to Oz, they aren't on the list of cars we can import....however if they were it would be game on...

Afraid not. The Gransport was sold here in "low volume " whereas the GT is a full volume model. The only way to bring one in privately is own and use overseas for 12 months or wait until they are 25 years old....don't think I can wait that long. There is another way but it's a bit too complex for me... Buy one in the UK, dis-assemble, bring in as parts, reassemble ... Maybe 25 years is shorter.

Hi Frank - That's for the reply, I'm based in Fleet, Hampshire. Where abouts are you?

Found the folding mirror switch - easy once you know how ;-)

Had a very enjoyable drive to work today and beginning to figure out the OBC etc. Very much looking forward to the weekend to enjoy!!

Thanks Darren
