Throttle 'blip' on down change

As you may have read, I have been lucky enough to upgrade to a quite lovely Gran Turismo GT S 4.7 Auto, with sports pack. It is SO lovely......:shy1:

Anyway, I have a question: I have only had the car three days so it is still early doors but.....when test driving an MC Shift previously, the automatic, audible blip of the throttle when the car changes down a gear (in sports mode I think) is very noticeable, and very nice! My car comes with the same MC Shift software but on an automatic gearbox. When I am in Sports mode, with the exhaust making that beautiful noise, sometimes I THINK that I hear the car making this throttle 'blip' when down changing, but more often than not, it doesn't seem to.

Should my car do this or am I imagining things? Thanks in advance for what is a bit of a train-spotterish question.

(maybe one for bigbob......? :-o)

I'm pretty sure that trait belongs to the MCshift only I'm afraid...

On manual gearbox versions the software rev matches the gear changes for a smooth change, double declutching if you like. In sport, it does the same, but a little 'over the top' for aural pleasure.
An automatic gearbox does not go into neutral between gearshift the same, so does not require the rev matching, hence no 'blip'.

Thank you for the explanation.

Explained perfectly sir!

That's odd because I have a Sport Auto, and it definitely does a fake heel'n'toe on downshifts when you're using the paddles (either manual or over-ride).

It probably does but no like the Mc shift...have you heard the downshift blips on an MCS?

My car seems to do something similar but only occasionally and nowhere near as pronounced as the blips on an MC Shift. That said I only drove an MC Shift briefly and did wonder whether it would be a bit much for me!

Maybe nice to have if you can switch it off!

You can, you can put the MC-shift into auto mode and turn off the sport setting for a much more sedate drive if your mum's on board

So, does the GTS (auto) do a pronounced downshift blip or not? Or is it reserved for the MC?

I wonder if its something they put into the software on the later Autos as people obviously like it.

Haven't driven a GTS but the Sport does. Wasn't as crisp as the MCShift IMO.

Note that there is a function to the blipping... Used to be what heel and toe was for - matching engine and road speeds for the gear to keep the car balanced. (It also sounds good - my other half always laughs when I do it, calling me a big kid. No matter how much I tell her it's functional only :D)
