tinting

anyhoo ...

coming back today along fleet street and inspector plod had pulled a bloke over and was busting him for tinted back windscreeen.

It certainly wasnt gangster or US president black, but he'd made the mistake of going just a shade too dark.

The rules seem to have been broken all over london - but it seems you get away with a tint even if a breach but only so much.

Two queries:

(1) who do people think are the best tint firms?

(2) who here has tinted passenger and driver windows and to what degree?

(3) has anyone here who has tinted ever had any problems?

Might get shot down in flames here Nick so dont take this as gospel , but my understanding is that front screen and passenger windows are not allowed to be tinted other than a sun visor shield, rear passenger windows and rear screen can be blacked out but there is a light emitting percentage and im not sure what that is , my 4200 rear screen and rear side windows have a slight tourquoise tint look good with the slight tourqoise sun visor

you're correct - but it seems all over the place people are getting away with a tint of the passenger and driver sides - just not too much.

technically not allowed - but in practice it seems its honoured in the breach - question is: are you prepared to take a punt - and if so - just do it lightly.

I think doing the windscreen is asking for trouble.

The law states you need to have 70% VLT (visible light transmission)

Light smoke is 50% VLT - so a 20% discrepancy.

On a serious note
I have been nicked for this one ( old bill )
I had 20% film on my van i think 17% is the legal limit
cost me £60 to find out

I thought about tinting but it doesn't really suit my hairstyle..... On a more serious note tinting the windscreen or front windows is a mistake. It may look cool but the real problem comes with a serious loss of vision especially at night. Motorcyclists can experience similar problems with tinted visors.......

i can see a case for lightly tinting the drivers and passengers windows - depends.

Pentagon have been suggested.

Anyone know anything about them?

Any other suggestions?

I've just had some tinted windows made for my Hawk Strato's. Driver & passenger side. Light green tint. I haven't actually seen them yet as they've been made in Milan. But they shouldn't be too noticable. I hope not to get pulled.
