Awful that Wattie, 4 people died in the accident according to news reports.
And a few critical so that number change - so very sad.
I am sure a number on here will have taken family on similar flights ……. there but for the grace of God.
Thoughts and prayers to everyone touched by this.

Speculation forum is this way.

Tragic loss.

Rest assured, a full and proper investigation will be carried out by the Australian CAA. Only then will we now the facts. Before this anything else is speculative.

Just caught up with this Wattie.
So sorry to hear it and so close to home for you.
My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this desperately sad loss at a time of happiness and celebration.

Footage from the helicopter that landed, on Australian news, the pilot doesn't even see the other helicopter but a passenger does, too late though

Channel 7 played a redacted version of that.
it’s odd how a passenger to the right of the pilot saw the approach from the left…..but he didn’t. The tap on the shoulder didn’t help as he turned to the passenger.
it’s possible the lower H didn’t see the other one as he was possibly “in the sun” at that time of day as he was climbing……all will be revealed but pilot error must be well up there in causation.

So sad.
It's quite amazing that the upper helicopter manged to land, it looked quite high in that video clip.
I guess a proximity alarm if another helicopter is within x range could avoid such accidents. Don't know if anything like that exists.

It has to be 100% pilot error, I assume there's no ATC involved

Re that video

I'd think an element of disbelief would be in the passengers mind, you'd be thinking, the pilot is a professional so he must've seen it, has he seen it, in that couple of seconds it's too late

I don't think the pilot being distracted at the last second contributed, he clearly didn't see it in the seconds before it hit so there wasn't much he could've done.

So sad.
Always in the back of your mind during air travel.
On our chopper flights to work, I never worry about it as such, but when your looking down at the ground below, the fact that helicopters don't glide too well if something was to happen is always of concern.
