The problem with transport is professional companies charge more because they abide by the rules, chancers don't so they quite often get the work because they're cheaper.

Yes you will get people going home with empty trucks on Shiply when you can get a good price, it's what happens to your car if they get stopped if they're overloaded , impounded with a recovery fee plus a daily charge usually

totally agree, however, there are professional companies/sole traders that will be acting within the law and still be a reasonable price, the guy is used from Shiply was "cheap" and professional, emailed over photo ID, operators licence and goods in transit insurance policy up to 100k before i agreed anything and also took care of the import paperwork, Nova notification for a mere £50. Personally I think Shiply is great, I've used them to collect all sorts of car parts around the country, you just need to choose the correct quote and check the feedback etc

I've used Shiply a few times, with no hassles. Especially if you are flexible with timescales, prices can be surprisingly good .

It's not just dealers who skimp on delivery driver's. An insurance company wanted me to part ways with my GT to two blokes who barely spoke English, looked rough and thought they were picking up a Jaaaag . I politely rang the insurer to think again about logistics.
The result was me driving the GT to the repair shop and getting a train home.

I've used Shiply regularly over the past 3 years and always had really good service from professional teams. I haven't moved a car though, but loads of oak and heavy furniture. Like you say, do a bit of due diligence and it has its place, I've only ever had 1 'company' refuse to send over insurance details etc so I didn't use them. I've found it works best if you can be flexible on dates which must help them get full loads each way.

Also Dan of SI fame, also fully recommended.

Perhaps the lesson here is to do your own diligence (but if that fails, post some pictures of scrap cars on lorry’s).

I've used Shiply too for several cars without issue. Also, used local places and no issues at all. It's not rocket science transporting a car... don't overthink it! While the GT and GC are long they are not particularly low at the front.

Another vote for Dan at Autohaul too. Matt kindly put us in touch and I used him to pick up the 4200 I bought last year and deliver to me. He went to SI to collect after Matt had done a couple of jobs for me.

I have used Shiply a couple of times with no problems,I found if you wait several days till all of the quotes come in, usualy the price drops.
One of my inital quotes was over £500 but ended up paying just over £250
